We can only change the world by coming together

I was walking along the western coast of the United States in 2012 on what would be a 3 month, 1000+ mile on-foot (mostly) pilgrimage beside the Great Pacific Ocean, when a lightbulb turned on above my head and I saw what it was I wanted to devote my life and work to build: A global network of people and causes who share common goals for helping those in greatest need of hope, aid and friendship around the world.

The phrase which came to mind in that moment was “humanitarian explorer.” Humanitarian, meaning having concern for the well-being of all human beings. Explorer, because we have to venture outside of comfort zones and norms in order to discover the people and places which truly need help most. We have to be willing to seek connection with all members of the human family, because we all need each other if we are to actually make true and lasting progress towards a better world that works for everyone to have the best quality of life possible.

Since 2012, I’ve done several other long-distance walks, covering at least 400 miles on-foot during the summer months of 2015, 2016 and 2018. Walking has had such a tremendously profound impact on how I see life, being open to anyone I would meet along the path and hopefully imparting some greater love and compassion with a heart ready to serve and meet needs.

Now, I am working to develop Humanitarian Explorer to be a global movement for anyone to join and use their voice for the causes they care most about. I hope you’ll join us.
