As we’ve argued in legal briefs since 2012, holistic admissions policies that include race are the best way to consider each applicant’s background and experiences, and an important tool to achieve meaningful diversity. This enhances the educational experience for all students and the quality of the overall workforce, including in education. Our mission is to provide an excellent & equitable education for young people, & research demonstrates a strong pipeline of racially diverse teachers improves K-12 edu & prepares kids for college, since racially diverse teachers improve the academic performance of all students. While yesterday’s SCOTUS decision poses new challenges, we at TFA will continue to advocate for policies and practices that ensure a diverse educator workforce, which research shows will yield the best results for students and the country. was recently acknowledged as a federal holiday, but most Americans didn’t learn about it in school and are still learning its historical significance. How will you commemorate Black history today?

First image credit to Smithsonian NMAAHC: Quilter Jessie Telfair was inspired to make this quilt in the mid-1970’s as an expression and memorialization of her experiences during the Civil Rights Movement. In the 1960s, Telfair was encouraged by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee’s efforts to register African American voters in Southwest Georgia.

Happy Heritage Month ✨ (AANHPI=Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander)

This year’s theme is “Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity.” Opportunity can be built, accessed, achieved, or given. This month is a time to speak out, share stories, and debunk myths about the community to support the advancement of AANHPI leaders.

Spreading awareness about the lived experiences of the AANHPI community prevents erasure of those most marginalized, and those most in need of opportunities to advance in our country – and in the education system.

The journey from student to education leader looks different for everyone. Ces’Ari Del Muro (Phoenix ‘10) knows firsthand about the particularly steep obstacles many aspiring Latinx education leaders face. That’s why she co-founded Latinx Education Coach LLC. The business supports Latinx and first-generation students of color through mentorship and advocacy, with the long-term hope of seeing an increase in representation amongst education leaders.

Ces’Ari shared with One Day Digital: “We need more people [in education leadership] roles because they are representing communities. Students need to see - even if they're not of the same culture - people of color in positions of power to normalize that.”

In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility we want to express our deepest gratitude for trans educators, trans students, and trans care givers.

"We have to remain visible. They have to see us, they have to know that we're not going [nowhere], that we've been here ever since God made man and woman, and they have to get over it. I don't need their permission to exist; I exist in spite of them. I want you to train and teach and love on and create families within my community and gender non-conforming people, so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a history, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We're entitled to be loved, and seek happiness, and share that with the people that we care about." -Miss Major Griffin-Gracy
