Outside Art produces and creates public art for Plattsburgh and spreads local awareness of public art projects around the world. Public art includes murals, sculptures, structures, and multimedia installations. We will work with local, regional, and national artists to animate our spaces. We hope Plattsburgh will become a tourist destination for art and a place for artists to settle and create. Directors of Outside Art: Les Cosgrove, Julia Devine, and Amy Guglielmo. History: Julia Devine and Amy Guglielmo founded Outside Art in January 2016. The idea was born in August 2015 when Amy and Julia produced the Battle of Plattsburgh mural outside of 30 City/Champlain Wine Company with artist Shawna Armstrong. Julia also coordinated the community tile making events for the Mountain Lake Mandala mural. Amy and Julia saw the powerful response from the Plattsburgh community and decided they must produce more public art for the downtown. Their next project is The Children's Mural, which will be installed outside the Corner-Stone Bookshop and designed by local children's book illustrators and SUNY Plattsburgh Art Professors Norman and Tory Taber. The mural will be unveiled during the City's 2016 July 4th celebration. Future projects in the works include more murals (large and small) in expected and unexpected places, a creative play structure for children, a sculpture walk, and temporary installations.
