The New York Genealogical & Biographical Society - NYG&B Our mission is to preserve, document, and share family history and stories from across New York. We focus on three areas:

Publications. Educational Programming.

We publish two quarterly journals, The Record and The New York Researcher. Subscriptions are benefits of membership. We produce a broad range of educational programming, and we are the lead organization developing The New York Family History School. We also partner with the New York Public Library to develop educational programs for students, teachers, and patrons of the branch library system in N

ew York City. Website. Our website contains extensive resources that benefit people researching families connected to New York State. Resources include guides to exploring resources relevant to New York, as well as primary materials that are unique to this site. Full access to the website is a benefit of membership.

Every family has a story worth sharing!

Do you have a special connection to a New York ancestor? We are seeking submissions for “New York Stories,” part of our 2026 New York State Family History Conference.

Selected participants will have their stories recorded and featured during the conference, taking place September 9–November 16, 2026.

Submit a summary of your proposed story (250 words maximum) by June 30, 2026, to [email protected] with the subject line “NY Stories Submission.”

If your submission is selected for consideration, we will contact you to arrange a recording session. Narrated stories should be between 4 and 8 minutes long. You do not need to be registered for the conference to participate.

Check out our recently released online collection, "Albany Diocesan Cemetery Records," preserved and made available online through our Digitize New York initiative.

With coverage dating back to the mid-19th century, these records capture generations of individuals and families. Digitized in partnership with the Albany Diocesan Cemeteries Association, these fully searchable records can help identify burial locations, plot ownership, and family connections within cemetery grounds.
