During June 2026, Sunset Park 5th Avenue BID was out there 7 days a week. We gathered 1,089 trash bags representing over 27,225 pounds of trash.

35 Tree pits were cleared of trash and all tree pits were mulched.
We installed 5 new tree pit fences on 54th Street and landscaped another 11 tree pits. (please water street trees whenever you can!)

Our Block by Block Clean Team removed 1,049 stickers and flyers.

Note: there has been a very small but welcome reduction in the number of illegal handbills, stickers & flyers. on much of 5th Avenue. Maybe our removal of them every day has discouraged the real estate sharks?

SPBID has once again requested that the New York City Department of Sanitation replace the many missing corner baskets.

Here are some Before and after pictures spotlighting various tasks done by our Clean Team. They vary from graffiti removal, painting, curb upkeep, storm drain cleanup, and others.

In September we'll work on steam cleaning some of the dirtiest corners -- now that the new DOT curb cut work is wrapping up.

We do as much as we can (that is, that we can afford). But we always welcome your help sending 311 complaint numbers, asking merchants and vendors to be tidy and just generally keeping an eye on things. Contact the BID if you need help reporting a 5th Avenue issue. [email protected] (718) 439-7767.
