BREAKING: 32BJ SEIU Members Authorize Strike of 34,000 NYC Residential Building Service Workers

10,000 32BJ SEIU members rallied on Park Avenue today and voted to authorize their Bargaining Committee to call a strike if a fair contract is not reached for 34,000 NYC residential building service workers by midnight April 20.

The homes of 1.5 million NYC residents would be impacted by a strike.

While the thriving real estate industry continues to enjoy record high rents, high property values, and historic low vacancy rates, 32BJ SEIU members are falling behind due to the rising cost of living.

We are fighting for the wages, healthcare and pensions we need to support our families and create a future we can look forward to.

We reject employer proposals to shift costs to workers and undermine our union contract.

Manny Pastreich, 32BJ President: “Our power is in the buildings! Our power comes from what we do every day for over 1.5 million New Yorkers in the buildings 32BJ members service. And it is right here. It is here 10,000 strong! It is here in the streets!”
Thank you to our allies who showed up to pledge support for the NYC residential building service workers!

Thanks to leadership from Rep. Ayanna Pressley ( ), the House is set to vote this week on extending TPS for Haitians.

Haitian TPS holders are 32BJ members, coworkers, neighbors, and family. They show up every day to do essential work that keeps our communities running.

Taking away TPS would harm working families and weaken our workforce. We must protect our members and ensure TPS for Haiti continues.

Last week, Baltimore City Security officers employed by Abacus Corporation and Metropolitan Protective Services walked out on strike.

Abacus has taken $45M+ in public funds. In return? An NLRB investigation for Retaliation for union activity , including three workers fired in six months for union activity. Workers demand Abacus respect their right to form a union without intimidation or retaliatory firings.

The facts:
• Seven overtime theft cases before Baltimore’s Wage Commission
• An active NLRB investigation for discrimination and retaliation, including three workers allegedly fired for union activity
• $45+ million in City of Baltimore contracts since 2017 — without competitive bidding

Last week we said loud and clear: respect our rights or don’t expect our labor.

Share this post to support our dream of forming a union!

Hundreds of 32BJ Residential Strike Captains and thousands of members have been meeting across NYC to discuss strike plans.

Without us, the garbage doesn’t go out, buildings don’t get cleaned, packages don’t get sorted.

We are ready to fight for our healthcare, wages and pensions!

Thank you to Brad Lander for standing with 32BJ residential workers.
Even in the midst of your run for Congress, you showed up in support of the workers who keep this city running. We appreciate your solidarity.

Last month, workers at Connecticut's service plazas voted overwhelmingly to ratify their first union contract! This victory was years in the making, and proof that when we FIGHT, we WIN BIG! 📣💪💜💛

We walked out on this ULP strike because we want Abacus to obey the law – the NLRB is investigating Abacus for repeatedly retaliating against us, firing us, threatening us- just for trying to form a union. Abacus, the ball is in your court. Don’t retaliate. Stop stalling. Respect the law and our right to form a union. To every union in Baltimore and beyond: share this. Our fight is your fight.

💜Airport service workers keep Charlotte Douglas running—but too many are still underpaid.
Airport worker LaShonda Barber shared the physical and financial toll of the job while Community leaders like City Council member JD Mazuera Arias showed their support to demand change at CLT.

💛The truth is CLT Airport exists because of its workers, and they deserve fair wages, real benefits, and safe working conditions. When one of the busiest airports in the world relies on their labor, the people who keep it moving every day shouldn’t be left behind.

‼️Contact the Charlotte City Council and demand that the lease with American Airlines include fair wages and benefits for airport workers. Click the 🔗 in our bio to show your support.

Thousands of NYC residential members have been meeting at their workplaces ahead of our April 15 Strike Vote Rally.

We are ready to fight for a fair contract!

New Yorkers rely on members with the most important part of their lives: their homes.

But too many are struggling with the affordability crisis!

Governor Roy Cooper visited Charlotte last week to meet with union members and leaders from SEIU Locals, 32BJ, United Service Workers Union, and Workers United.

Airport workers shared the challenges they face on the job, from short staffing to low pay, and lack of good benefits. They also made clear that when these workplace issues are addressed, the airport workforce can become more stable and the airport safer.

Thank you, Governor Roy Cooper, for taking the time to listen to workers. Conversations like these demonstrate his commitment to finding solutions for working people who fuel NC’s economy.
