This summer look out for AnkhLave Garden Project Fellow, Haksul Lee’s “Resonances” (Currently In Progress) which will be presented at the 8th Annual AnkhLave Garden Project Exhibition at Queens Botanical Garden ()

This is an evolving public sculpture exploring how sound, structure, and society intersect.

Composed of five hollow steel columns (1’ x 1’ x 6’), 5 Resonances transforms industrial material into a living instrument. Inside each pillar, suspended metal tubes are precisely tuned to a single note of the major pentatonic scale: C, D, E, G, A.

While each column holds one note, variations in material and length create shifts in octave and tone—offering different “flavors” of the same pitch.

✨ What does it mean?
• Diversity — Each material and tonal variation reflects the richness of individual identities within a city.
• Solidarity — The pentatonic scale ensures harmony at all times—no wrong notes, only collective resonance.

🎧 Interactive by design
Visitors are invited to engage intuitively. There’s no training required—just presence. Every interaction produces harmony, reminding us that even through difference, we can create something unified and beautiful.

Cold steel becomes sound. Structure becomes connection.

Juicy Fruit, a vibrant solo exhibition by Dominique Dorvil, marks the inaugural Emerging Artist Solo Show presented by AnkhLave Arts Alliance at its Governors Island gallery.

This radiant body of work explores Caribbean culture through the sensory language of food, tradition, and celebration. Centering the richness of Caribbean identity, Dorvil traces its connections across the African diaspora and beyond—inviting viewers into a world where familiarity and difference become bridges rather than boundaries.

Through vivid, saturated compositions, Dorvil examines how cultures name, prepare, and experience fruit, while drawing parallels to shared traditions such as Carnival across regions. Gold tones, lush textures, and high-gloss finishes evoke both the abundance of the land and the dynamic energy of Caribbean life.

At its core, Juicy Fruit challenges reductive narratives often imposed on Caribbean communities. In place of tropes of poverty, corruption, and hypersexualization, Dorvil offers images grounded in joy, pride, and cultural abundance.

Each work becomes an immersive portal—where fruit transforms from object to symbol, and scenes shift into living expressions of identity, memory, and continuity. The exhibition pulses with a sense of home that transcends geography, connecting diasporic communities through shared feeling and experience.

Join us this Saturday, May 30th from 3:30–5:00 PM for the closing reception of our first Monthly Featured Artist in Residence, Vasudev Vashisht ()

Come experience the work, connect with the artist, and celebrate the culmination of this inaugural residency in our alternative space.

Vasudev’s practice explores the material and ecological dimensions of photography, reimagining the medium as a collaborative and responsive process rather than a tool of representation or control. He incorporates organic matter into the photographic process, allowing environmental conditions to participate in image-making. These materials become both subject and collaborator, transforming the photograph through contact and decay, embracing chance and nonhuman agency while challenging photography’s extractive history through reciprocity.
