Thank you.

Eleven years ago, RudduR Dance was an idea. Eleven years later, we are still making work. You are why.

We asked for one thousand dollars for every year. You helped us almost double our goal by giving $20,798. Every one of those dollars becomes rehearsal hours, dancers paid, work made.

To everyone who gave, everyone who shared, everyone who told a friend about us: we felt every single one of you. You did not just fund a season. You told us this work is worth continuing.

Big news, RudduR Dance Community! We're honored to share that we've been named a recipient of ART/New York's FY 2027-28 NYC Small Theatres Fund. This support helps us continue creating necessary work and sustaining our space for artists and audiences. We are so grateful to for investing in small theatres and the communities we serve.

Today, our Summer Fundraiser comes to a close.

Eleven years ago, Christopher started RudduR Dance on one belief he's never let go of: that dance can better the world. Not dance for some. Not dance for those who already had access. Dance as a force that could open doors, tell truths, and build community wherever it showed up.

This summer, you told him he wasn't the only one who believed it.

You gave. You shared. You showed up, again and again, for artists who have spent their careers being told to wait their turn, to make room for someone else first, to prove themselves twice as hard for half the recognition. This summer, you helped change that equation, even if just a little.

Every gift, every share, every comment of encouragement added up to something real: a company that can keep making work, keep paying its artists, and keep showing up for this community.

Today is Christopher Rudd's birthday.

Eleven years ago, our founder and Executive Artistic Director started RudduR Dance on one belief: that dance can better the world. That belief has taken us from a studio in New York City to stages across the country and around the globe, including the Apollo Theater, BAM, and the New Victory Theater here at home, and audiences in France, Trinidad and Tobago, Burkina Faso, Ecuador, and Italy.

It's shaped a company that centers Black and q***r stories, pays artists at living wage rates, and has built an Artist-Administrator Career Pathway Program training company artists to lead both on stage and inside the organization.

We can't think of a better birthday gift than helping him close out our Summer Fundraiser strong. We're $11,717 away from our goal of $30,000, raised from our original $11,000 thanks to a $15,000 match challenge from two longtime supporters. What does your donation actually make possible?

Company artists are learning to run the organization they perform for. Grant writing. Operations. Communications. Building careers that last beyond the stage.

Through our Artist-Administrator Career Pathway Program, we're changing what a life in dance can look like for Black and POC artists. Black artists make up just 2% of professional ballet companies worldwide. The pipeline into leadership and administration is even smaller. We're building a different model, one where the people who make the work also help shape the institution.

Artist-administrators rotate through placements embedded within the organization's core functions, all while maintaining their artistic practice. It creates career stability, builds institutional knowledge, and keeps decision-making in the hands of people who understand this work from the inside.

This is how we grow. This is how the field changes. And it only works because people show up for us.

We're halfway through our Summer Fundraiser, and we are so grateful for the support we've received so far. If you've already given, thank you. If you haven't yet, there is still time, and it makes a real difference.

We also have exciting news: two longtime supporters have pledged $15,000 to match every gift, dollar for dollar, through July 25. With this match, we're raising our fundraising goal to $30,000, and every gift you make between now and then goes twice as far.

This week, we want to give you a look at what's ahead for RudduR Dance.

An expanded work. We're developing WITNESS: 250 Years, an expanded work centered on the United States' 250th anniversary. It asks hard, necessary questions about who this country has included and who it has left behind. More details are still to come, but we wanted you to be among the first to know it's in motion.

A strategic plan. We're in the early stages of a strategic plan that will guide RudduR Dance as it grows, stabilizes, and deepens its impact in the years ahead. That includes how we resource the work, expand our community reach, and build toward a permanent home.

Becoming independent. We're also taking our first steps toward establishing RudduR Dance as its own independent nonprofit. Our first internal conversations are happening now, and we expect to file by the end of 2026. Eleven years of building this company, and it's actually happening. We're becoming a permanent institution, and that's what your support makes possible.
