We need to design better buildings for our students. It's more than just air conditioning, it's the way we approach the entire building. We hope you'll join us for our free online Passive House Schools Symposium on June 20th to find out more. Register to join us: https://passivehousenetwork.org/schools-symposium/

Studies show that in more places in the United States, there are now more days hotter than 80 degrees during the school year than there were in 1970. Schools that can’t afford air conditioning are struggling with overheated classrooms, which researchers say pose both academic and health risks. Joh...

This week, we’ve been thinking a lot about how to respond to our ongoing climate emergency. As firefighters battle to contain the fire consuming Maui, we’re looking back to Passive House expert Monte Paulsen’s explanation of the cascading effects of climate change that led to the 2021 Pacific Northwest floods.

More importantly, we’re looking at the ways that communities can rebuild for a more stable future, especially with retrofits. EnerPHit offers a comprehensive step-by-step approach to avoid locking-in low performance, delivering buildings that fully leverage building performance and provide effective shelters. Follow along with Paulsen as he describes the policies, past missteps, and the view toward long-term planning for high-performance retrofits. Learn about the application of the EnerPHit standard and stepwise process to single-family and multifamily building examples.

Our PHN chapter coordinators work hard to promote in their communities. PHN member and Passive House Pennsylvania comms coordinator, Acadia Klain, has been working hard to organize in-person events - like wall throwdowns - in Pittsburgh. Here's why she thinks in-person events are important: "It’s easy to remain in our silos when we meet virtually, so the in-person conversations are so important to build camaraderie and reinforce the goal of sharing knowledge to make a collective impact."
