The Institute for Architectural Research is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) collaborative forum, created to foster the purpose of pursuing architectural fundamentals in relation to society and culture. The Institute has two arms, teaching and research. The current framework of architecture discourse at the Institute focuses on matters of perception; the production of images; ecological architecture; and con
nections of spatial and material relationships between human experiences and contemporary societal concerns. The corporation will achieve its purpose through an aggregate of design workshops, theoretical research publications, public art and architecture installations, history/theory lectures and seminars, educational films, IDP development programs, and mentoring high school students interested in pursuing the study of architecture. The corporation will benefit its members, students and architects in New York City, and the general public of New York City in general. The Institute offers a wide range of opportunities, for all levels of experience, to learn about architectural principles while building ideas. Teaching workshops and classes include: middle school mentoring programs, architecture preparatory courses for high school and college undergraduate students, portfolio design, hand drawing classes, and tutorials on digital design programs. Our initiative is to link aspiring architects, artists, and designers with experienced professionals promoting a unique mode of learning while doing. Funding for events and research, in a large part, comes from donations, but in most cases, we need to charge workshops to provide for materials and time. (100% of every purchase feeds back into the Institute's mission) Cost for workshops and events is free for members of the public with low income, this includes students in middle and high school, or students currently enrolled in a University. Approval of free admissions will be review by the board of directors. If you would like to waive the cost of any workshop, please email us at [email protected]. The core value of the Institute for Architectural Research is to bridge between the theoretical and practical side of architecture. Cultivate a shared educational environment, seeking architectural innovations from all urban cultural backgrounds, the Institute encourages new ideas, concepts, and sharing of research in a diverse multicultural environment in the metropolitan area of New York.
