Today, Elhaam Academy was filled with creativity, reflection, and powerful voices as our students participated in Hands of Hope—a meaningful session dedicated to bullying awareness, kindness, and community responsibility.

Through open and honest conversations, students explored the real impact of bullying—how words, actions, and even silence can affect others deeply. More importantly, they learned that each of us has the power to make a difference by choosing empathy, respect, and compassion in our daily lives.

What made this session truly special was the way our students transformed their thoughts into art. Through painting and creative expression, they shared messages of unity, inclusion, and standing up for one another. Every brushstroke reflected a commitment to kindness and a vision for a safer, more supportive community.

This initiative is part of our ongoing partnership with the NYC Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes, working together to empower our youth with awareness, leadership, and the courage to speak out against hate and injustice.

At Elhaam Academy, we believe that building strong communities starts with our young people. By nurturing their voices and values today, we are shaping compassionate leaders for tomorrow.

Together, we stand for kindness. Together, we stand against bullying. 🤝

Over 300 people attended the Interfaith Celebration Honoring Ramadan, Passover, and Easter

In a powerful display of unity, faith, and community solidarity, Brooklyn leaders, clergy, media representatives, and residents gathered this evening for the United Interfaith Celebration honoring Ramadan, Passover, and Easter, hosted by The Bridge Multicultural & Advocacy Project at The Bridge MCP, located at 1894 Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn.

The evening stood as a moving testament to the strength of Brooklyn’s diverse communities coming together in shared purpose and mutual respect. As three of the world’s most sacred observances - Ramadan, Passover, and Easter - overlap this season, the event created a meaningful space for reflection, prayer, and fellowship among people of different faiths

Attendees experienced an uplifting program that included religious readings, prayers, and the sharing of delicious Kosher and Halal cuisine, symbolizing the deep cultural and spiritual connections that bind communities together.

A highlight of the celebration was the presence of Honored Guest Speaker, New York City Council Member Yusef Salaam, Chair of the Committee to Combat Hate, whose remarks emphasized the importance of building bridges between communities and standing united against division. His message resonated deeply with attendees and reinforced the significance of interfaith collaboration in strengthening New York City.

The event also welcomed distinguished elected officials including Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards, Jr., Public Advocate Jumaane D. Williams, Council woman CM Mercedes Narcisse and Council Member Farah N. Louis, alongside respected community and faith leaders such as Reverend Dr. Charles O. Galbreath of Clarendon Road Baptist Church, Rabbi Danny, Dr-Sima Karetnaya G100 USA Country Chair for Diplomacy, WHO Health Expert, USA Pres. Biden’s Lifetime Awardee and Gil Cygler, among many others who joined in solidarity to celebrate faith, culture, and community.

Blessing and Prayer were given by Muhammad Shahidullah , Rabbi Andre Malek ,Pastor. Charles O. Galbreath Dileepkumar Thankappan ,Hon Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik and our co sponsors Atia Shahnaz. COPO, Making a Change with Kindness, Dr-Sima Karetnaya, Rabbinical Alliance of America / Igud Harabbonim, Raheela Aslam New Life Minority Human Rights Council Inc.Also in attendance was

This extraordinary gathering was made possible through the leadership and vision of Mark Meyer Appel, Founder of The Bridge MCP, whose commitment to fostering dialogue, cultural understanding, and community partnership continues to create meaningful opportunities for unity across Brooklyn.

Special recognition is extended to the media and documentation teams who helped capture and amplify the significance of the evening, including Brenda Cox of the Canarsie Courier for providing media coverage, Bridge TV for highlighting the event, Christopher Leon Johnson for his photography, and Manzoor Hussain for attending and contributing additional media coverage.

Tonight’s celebration demonstrated that when communities come together across cultures and faith traditions, they create powerful moments that transcend differences and inspire collective hope.

We strongly condemn the attack on a synagogue in Detroit.
Houses of worship - Mosques, Synagogues, and Churches - must always remain places of peace and safety.

Standing in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters against hatred and violence. America is strongest when people of all faiths can worship freely. 🇺🇸

As the Hands Off Faith Table takes our gatherings borough by borough, we are lifting up the leadership of local faith communities working to protect their neighbors amid escalating federal immigration actions. Join us in Staten Island — often called the “Forgotten Borough” — to hear strategies from leaders organizing on the ground, how they collaborate with directly impacted communities, and what lessons can strengthen all of our work.

Information about Know Your Rights trainings and other immigration resources from local faith-based and community organizations will be available.Faith leaders from all boroughs are encouraged to attend, and Staten Island leaders seeking to deepen their engagement are especially encouraged to join us.

Following the meeting, a halal dinner will be served for all. Space will be available for Muslims to pray before breaking their fast. For additional information, please contact [email protected].

Rachel Lit , Associate Director of School and Teacher Programs at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, joined us in Queens to celebrate a beautiful and meaningful Ramadan iftar with Muslim youth and families — during a time when Ramadan and Purim are being observed side by side.

It was an honor to lead the iftar as Imam Muhammad Shahidullah, surrounded by children, parents, and community leaders who gathered not only to break bread, but to build bridges. In a world facing painful conflicts and deep divisions, moments like this remind us that New York is different. Here, we choose coexistence over hatred, dialogue over division, and friendship over fear.

While global tensions affect many communities in deeply personal ways, we stand together in this city as neighbors — Muslims, Jews, Christians, and people of all backgrounds — committed to peace, mutual respect, and shared humanity. Ramadan and Purim both teach resilience, faith, and hope. Celebrating together sends a powerful message: even in difficult times, we can create spaces of light, compassion, and unity.

May our gatherings continue to reflect the true spirit of New York — diverse, strong, and peacefully coexisting.
