As New York City residents continue to struggle with obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and coronary illness, one company pledges to begin integrating Health and Halloween as a way to introduce healthier living to the youth of The Borough of The Bronx. for change to occur, starting with our most prized possessions, our children. The 1st Annual Miss Abbie’s Halloween Extravaganza Block Party & Health Fair will directly impact over 2500 children this Halloween on Thursday, October 31, 2013 on Decatur Avenue between Fordham Road and E193rd Street, from 1PM – 7PM, in the Fordham Road section of The Bronx. Miss Abbie --- an over 30 year-long resident of this Decatur Avenue, Bronx community, would prepare for weeks prior to Halloween day and give every child that walked through her block a goodie bag of mostly sugar free delectables, toys and painting faces. She would use the time painting faces to talk with all the children and their parents about how to avoid the chronic diseases that she suffered from, using her own failing health as an inspirational springboard of education. She has passed away and her memory is still remarkably fresh in the minds of those she has touched over the years. Charles Enterprises and sponsors have made a commitment to increase Miss Abbies vision in a multi-fold fashion.
