Alex M. from Richmond, Virginia gathered 10 people to clean up the Reedy Creek Wetlands—they saw a fox and deer! 🧹

Arthemas E. from Sudan gathered 60 people in their community for a social event to share + learn about building resilient, peaceful, and healthy communities in southern Sudan 🤍

Siggi H. and Julie C. from Cambridge helped set up a community picnic, the main fundraiser for a local co-op—their growing group of 14 Idealists led the effort with 4 co-op committee members to support more projects in their community 🧺

"Helping a community partner with their event is low-time commitment as the community partner is doing all the organizing and you're just helping!"

Elsie O. from Ghana met with five other people online to discuss progress on the "Grow Cocoa Initiative" project 🌱

Kara left Idealist in 2025 to pursue other passions in life, but shared her Impact Story with us in honor of our 30th anniversary this year:

"I really appreciated how Idealist created a culture of allowing people to be themselves; to bring, and celebrate, our collective knowledge, leadership, humor, quirks, ideas, and sense of camaraderie at any table.

When Bart O. retired, he started looking for volunteer opportunities to fill his time and give back to his community. He started his volunteer journey at Sydney Cooper Senior Smiles, where he read books to his favorite resident Betty and looked forward to their special snack time each week (cheese, crackers, and Diet Coke) 🥤

"We were so different, but became good buddies!" Bart said. "I got to know her family, too, who lived far away. They loved hearing about her each week. It was a wonderful experience!"

Bart eventually found For Goodness Cakes and discovered a new passion: baking birthday cakes for children in foster care. He enjoys the whole process, from searching the website for cakes that match his schedule to planning the cake's decorations.

He credits Idealist for the joy he's discovered in retirement. It's easy to sort volunteer opportunities by location, find more details, and inquire about listings that align with his interests.

University of Southern California's Price School of Public Policy has been attending the Idealist Grad School Fair for almost 20 years 🤯

What keeps them coming back? The connections they make with people who want to make a positive impact in the world ❤️

"Each year we get to meet a number of just amazing people who are driven to make change and improve their communities, whether it be at the local level, state level, or federal/international level," the Associate Director of Admissions Will Coucheron-Aamot told Idealist. "I’ve seen several of the people we met at Idealist go on to graduate from our programs and take on their dream roles and address some really challenging issues."
