Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble

Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble PJCE’s mission is to create and perform original jazz music that engages and supports our community’s diverse artists, cultures, and place.

The Portland Jazz Composers’ Ensemble is a 12-piece jazz chamber orchestra which commissions, performs, and records original works by its members and others in the Portland music community and beyond. PJCE envisions a vibrant jazz community where composers, performers, students, and audiences create, see and hear their cultural experiences artistically expressed and represented in original jazz compositions and performance.

It's the last Bandcamp Friday of the year. A day when Bandcamp waives its fees, and artists receive 100% of the revenue from your purchase. In other words, it's a great day to shop for recordings from your favorite local jazz artists!

Today is Giving Tuesday, a day when communities around the world come together to make a difference. We're asking you to join us in supporting something truly special: the future of jazz.

We're SO close! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our core supporters, we've already raised $3,750 toward our $5,000 goal to fund the 2025–26 Young Jazz Composers program. With just $1,250 to go, we're turning to the entire PJCE community to help us cross the finish line.

Can you help us reach our $5,000 goal today?

Any amount you can give brings us closer to ensuring that the next generation of jazz composers has the opportunity to learn, create, and shine. ✨

Enrollment is open for the 2026 Young Jazz Composers cohort!

The Young Jazz Composers program is a mentorship opportunity for Portland area students to learn how to compose for and interact with professional jazz musicians. Students will explore composition techniques with a mentor, learn how to input their score and parts into a music software program, and workshop their piece with our house band. At the end of the program, PJCE musicians will perform the students’ composition in front of a live audience.

Learn more about the program at the link in our bio!
