Featuring the wonderful Christine Taylor Price, Megan Moore, and Samuel Kidd, with Steven Blier and Nathaniel LaNasa at the piano (and surprise guest Gregory Feldman), it was a night full of musical storytelling, discovery, and connection.

We’re delighted to have baritone, Samuel Kidd joining us for First Name Basis on October 20!

A member of the San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellowship Program for the 2025–2026 season, Samuel has performed with leading opera companies and training programs across the country.

This season, he returns to San Francisco Opera, takes on the role of Guglielmo in Livermore Valley Opera’s ‘Così fan tutte’ and performs as a baritone soloist with the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera and Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra.

Adding to his growing list of accomplishments, Samuel was named a National Finalist in the 2025 Metropolitan Opera ‘Laffont Competition’!🎉

🎶 MUSIC MONDAY

Today, we’re taking a look back at excerpts from My Brother’s Keeper, NYFOS’s powerful 2024 concert celebrating brotherhood, community, and the extraordinary voices of Black men in America.

Conceived by Justin Austin and co-artistic directed with Steven Blier, the program brought together six remarkable singers — Joshua Blue, Chaz’men Williams-Ali, Will Liverman, Joseph Parrish, Jorell Williams, and Alan Williams — for an evening spanning art song, opera, soul, gospel, and musical theater.

From Margaret Bonds and William Grant Still to Donny Hathaway, Lead Belly, Brahms, and original music by Jorell Williams, the evening was a celebration of music, heritage, resilience, and the power of lifting one another up.

These excerpts capture just a little of the spirit of that unforgettable night. ❤️🎶

And the music lives on through the NYFOS Records recording of My Brother’s Keeper.
