That’s a wrap from Geneva! 🇨🇭

On August 28, WFUNA concluded its 44th Plenary Assembly at World Health Organization Headquarters.

Our final day included two plenary sessions, reports from WFUNA’s commissions and capacity-building sessions on Global Model UN, fundraising, UN advocacy and civil society access through the NGO Liaison Office in Geneva.

Over three meaningful days, United Nations Associations, delegates, young people, civil society and NGO representatives, speakers, partners and supporters came together to exchange ideas, learn from one another and strengthen our global community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make World Congress 2026 and the 44th Plenary Assembly such a meaningful gathering.

Our time in Geneva may have concluded, but our shared work to reclaim and strengthen multilateralism continues. 🌍

A new chapter for WFUNA 🇺🇳

The World Federation of United Nations Associations is pleased to welcome Ambassador Katalin Bogyay of Hungary as its newly elected President.

Ambassador Bogyay was elected on August 27, 2026, during WFUNA’s 44th Plenary Assembly at World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

We look forward to her leadership as WFUNA enters its next chapter and continues strengthening the global United Nations Association movement, advancing civic engagement and championing a more inclusive, effective and people-centred multilateral system.

Day 2—August 27—marked the opening of WFUNA’s 44th Plenary Assembly at World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva! 🇺🇳

United Nations Associations from around the world gathered for a full day of plenary sessions, collaboration and meaningful dialogue alongside the WFUNA Youth Forum.

We also commemorated 80 years of WFUNA as the People’s Movement for the United Nations at the Jan Masaryk Monument in Parc Rigot. Remarks were delivered by WFUNA leadership alongside H.E. Fedor Rosocha, Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the United Nations Office at Geneva, and H.E. Gabriela Boiteux Pilna, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Together, we continue strengthening our global movement and reclaiming multilateralism.

WFUNA World Congress 2026: Reclaiming Multilateralism 🌍

On August 26, the World Federation of United Nations Associations brought together United Nations Associations, civil society representatives, young people, experts and members of the public at World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva.

Throughout the day, participants explored two central themes: “Reclaiming the UN—Reinforcing and Strengthening the UN We Need” and “Reclaiming the Narrative—Showcasing and Building on the UN’s Successes.”

Discussions addressed the UN’s legitimacy and relevance, Security Council reform, human rights, peacekeeping, global health cooperation and the future of AI governance. Regional meetings and a Youth Forum led by WFUNA’s William Yotive also created opportunities for collaboration and youth participation across our global network.

The Congress concluded with a gala dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, beginning with a March of the Blue Helmets in honour of UN peacekeepers. H.E. Lakhdar Brahimi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria and Arab League Special Envoy to Syria, was also recognized for his decades of service and dedication to diplomacy, peacekeeping and international cooperation. 🕊️
