This week, we honor the incredible work parent coordinators do to support New York City students, families, and school communities every day. Parent coordinators answer questions, help address parental concerns, and in difficult moments, balance compassion, advocacy, and collaboration with great care. Parent coordinators are often the first school staff members that connect with families at the beginning of every school year, and do critical work to help families feel both informed and included in their children's education all year-round.

NYC Public Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels issued a proclamation at the NYCPS Parent Coordinator Conference officially recognizing the first week of June as “Parent Coordinator Appreciation Week.”

Help us celebrate our parent coordinator members in Local 372 Board of Education Employees by thanking them for their work! 🍏

‼️VICTORY FOR DC 37 MEMBERS! In the FY2027 New York State Budget, DC 37 successfully fought for and secured the most impactful changes to Tier 6 since Governor Cuomo enacted it in 2012.

Effective Oct. 1, 2026, employee contributions will be reduced to newly established salary bands. More than 70% of DC 37 members in Tier 6 will now pay a 3% rate, and 100% of DC 37 members in Tier 6 will immediately benefit from these improvements. We also secured revisions to overtime rules, effective Jan. 1, 2027.

The fight to reform Tier 6 isn’t over– we still have time to secure additional changes before 2042, when the first Tier 6 members will be eligible for retirement. THANK YOU to each and every member for fighting with us, for joining us at Lobby Day, for every call you made and every letter you sent to our State lawmakers. Your activism made the difference in landing this win for workers. And thank you to all of the elected officials who stood beside us and pushed for these changes in the budget. We appreciate your support and solidarity ✊

Our solidarity is our power: Join us to urge City Council to VOTE NO ON INTRO. 303!

DC 37 and our allies will gather at the intersection of Broadway and Murray to support unionized home care workers from Local 389 Home Care Employees in the fight against Intro. 303, which would ban the shifts they rely on for their collectively bargaining wages, health care, and retirement benefits.

Grab your DC 37 shirt and point your smartphone to the link in our bio to send a letter to the City Council explaining why 24-hour shifts are essential to the unionized home care workers who fulfill the needs of disabled New Yorkers and the patients themselves.

RSVP at bit.ly/4eEhoK - our union siblings are counting on us!

DC 37 members, assemble!✊💥Our union siblings in Local 389 Home Care Employees need our support to fight legislation being considered by the New York City Council that could jeopardize their hard-won collective bargaining rights, health benefits and pensions.

Intro. 303 bans 24-hour “live-in shifts” for home care workers by fining healthcare providers for scheduling shifts longer than 12 hours per day in New York City. Forcing two 12-hour shifts means unionized workers stand to lose their negotiated wages, health care, and access to retirement benefits. Intro. 303 puts home care workers and the nearly 13,000 disabled New Yorkers who rely on them at risk!

How can you help? Visit bit.ly/3PHxPZB now to send an email to the City Council and Speaker Julie Menin to tell them: Vote NO on Intro. 303! Then, join us next Wednesday at noon for a rally at City Hall Park to stand in solidarity with Local 389 and all unionized home care workers! RSVP here: bit.ly/4eErhoK

DC 37 members turned out for the May Day Rally and March with the New York City Central Labor Council, the New York Immigration Coalition, our fellow unions and community members from across the city to commemorate International Workers' Day. The Green Machine chanted “UNION POWER!” from Washington Square Park down to Foley Square.

This May Day, it is more important than ever to make our voices heard, stand together, and build coalitions. In cities across the United States, we are united in our demand for worker protections and economic justice. We will not be silent while working people are under attack!
