Since its founding in 2004, the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council (PHNDC) has been the leading civic organization providing advocacy for neighborhood-wide issues on behalf of the residents and businesses of Prospe

ct Heights. PHNDC is a New York State not-for-profit corporation with tax exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. NYC DOT is conducting a study to re-envision the public space around Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. This study builds upon past work around Grand Army Plaza and will shape a capital project that seeks to create a world-class public space by improving pedestrian connections and making it easier to travel around and through the Plaza. If you are covered by Good Cause Eviction law, you have a right to remain in your home as long as you pay rent, and you can challenge rent hikes if they are over a certain limit. But it can be really difficult to figure out if you are covered and to then assert your rights. This building on Atlantic Avenue between Vanderbilt and Underhill just entered the City affordable housing lottery with 48 deeply affordable apartments. Residents of Brooklyn community district 8 (which includes Prospect Heights) get preference for 10 of them.

It's not fair that gentrification has caused long-time owners of historic houses in Prospect Heights lose access to preservation tax credits that can offset the costs of maintaining their homes. We're urging Governor Hochul sign State Senate bill S405 extending access their access to credits.
