Today Jesuits around the world celebrate St. Francis Borgia, SJ, a Spanish nobleman who gave up wealth and status to join the Society of Jesus. He served as the third Superior General of the Jesuits and was instrumental in expanding their global missions and establishing schools.

Congratulations to Dr. John Moran and Dr. Kathryn Ray of Cheverus High School in Portland, ME. Fr. Provincial Robert Reiser, SJ, recently commissioned Dr. Moran as the school’s first lay president and Dr. Ray as its first female principal. Through their Ignatian formation, and with the help of faculty and staff, they will lead Cheverus forward in its Jesuit tradition and mission.

Throughout September, the USA East Province marked Jesuit Jubilee Masses and gatherings at Boston College High School, Fordham University, and Loyola University Maryland. Jesuits marking a jubilee year in either the priesthood or the Society of Jesus were honored for their vocations and for their years of dedicated service to spreading the Gospel and responding to the needs of the Church and the world.

These jubilees offered an opportunity to give thanks for the many ways our Jesuits have shared their gifts, bringing countless people closer to Jesus through their ministry.

Please keep our jubilarians, and all Jesuits, in your prayers.

More than 100 golfers gathered at Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y., on Sept. 21 for the 2026 Friends of the Jesuits Golf Outing: The Keenan, which supports the formation of future Jesuits and the care of senior Jesuits. Ten Jesuit schools competed for the Keenan Cup, with Xavier High School taking home this year’s trophy. Click the link to view more photos from the day and watch a video of Fr. Shout out to St. Joseph's Prep on their recent 175th anniversary!

On September 15, 1851, 95 young men entered St. Joseph’s Church in Philadelphia for their first day of school. Fittingly, they began their Prep journey with the Mass of the Holy Ghost, engaging in a tradition shared by Jesuit schools around the world.

UPDATE FOR JESUITS CELEBRATING THEIR JUBILEE AT FORDHAM THIS SUNDAY

Despite the inclement weather expected this weekend, our Jesuit Jubilee Mass will take place as scheduled this Sunday at Fordham University.

Mass will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the Grand Hall on the third floor of the McShane Campus Center.

We look forward to gathering together to celebrate our Jesuit jubilarians. Please travel safely, and plan accordingly for the weather.

Please note that the jubilee Mass and reception is only for Jesuits and their family and friends.

“The Visual Commentary on Scripture” recently published three reflections by scholastic Nick Leeper, SJ. Leeper paired Psalms 3–7 with three slightly different paintings that Vincent van Gogh did of his bedroom. Fr. Zach Presutti, SJ, was recently with the Thrive For Life community in Milwaukee for the blessing of the new St. Bakhita Peace and Healing Garden, the first Thrive For Life women's house in the network. The statue that was unveiled is a replica by the artist Timothy Schmalz, depicting St. Bakhita liberating people held in modern day bo***ge: s*x trafficking, forced labor, and child soldiers.

Congratulations to the foursome from Xavier High School on winning this year’s Keenan Cup! In addition to proudly displaying the Keenan Cup trophy, Xavier will be honored with a special Mass and will receive a $15,000 donation toward financial aid at Xavier or a school of their choice.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us and supported the work of the province. We hope to see you again—and welcome those who couldn’t join us this year—at the 2027 Friends of the Jesuits Golf Outing!
