We have now taught over a thousand children the importance of proper hydration. Hydration Education Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to educating children about the nutritional benefits of gulping water. Educating kids about hydration isn't free, and it's made possible only through tax-deductible contributions from both individuals and corporate sponsors.
Our 501c3 non-profit charitable organization’s mission is to prevent childhood obesity, diabetes, dehydration and dental disease.

The Hydration Education Foundation, Inc. (www.gulpwater.org) teaches children to choose to gulp plain water instead of sugar drinks. Given today's numerous beverage choices, such a simple health concept can amount to a complex task.

This week we reached a new geographical milestone, we happily fulfilled a request for our Hydration Education lesson plans from Wasilla, Alaska.

Already our lesson plans have been introduced to schools in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Arizona, Florida, New York as well as in New Zealand and Australia.

The US Department of Agriculture has designated Hydration Education Foundation, Inc. as an Official Community Partner. The IRS recently granted us 501(c)3 public charity status as a not-for-profit and we have officially launched our sponsorship programs enabling corporations to have their marketing goals achieved through our teaching materials.

While most understand that dehydration can have medical complications, a new study shows that even mild dehydration can influence mood, energy levels and the ability to think clearly.
Regrettably, we often use thirst as an indicator for when we need to drink — a response that experts say is too late to avoid many of the detrimental effects of dehydration.

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of Don Papineau. He was a really special man who smiled both with his mouth and with his eyes. Don just recently learned of this foundation, its purpose and was thrilled with its mission. I'd like to respectfully encourage all of Gulpwater's friends to take a quiet moment to honor this outstanding gentleman, his family and friends. He will truly be missed.

From www.kendrickfincher.org: This foundation was created tragically after their son Kendrick lost his life 6 years ago to dehydration while he was playing football. Their site is dedicated to their son and providing hydration education to teens and their teachers. I was honored to speak with Rhonda Fincher. She is a kind and wonderful new friend. Dehydration
Dehydration during exercise is a common problem. Some young athletes can begin to suffer the consequences of dehydration if they become dehydrated by just 2 percent of their body weight during exercise in the heat.

That’s why it’s important to recognize the warning signs:
· Noticeable Thirst
· Muscle Cramps
· Weakness
· Decreased Performance
· Nausea
· Headache
· Fatigue
· Lightheaded feeling or dizziness
· Difficulty paying attention

Monitor the quantity and color of your urine. If you don’t need to empty your bladder for several hours, it’s a sure sign you are running low on liquid. When you do “go” make sure that it’s light yellow to clear; a strong yellow color is one of the best indicators of a need for better hydration.

At the onset of thirst, an individual will already be 3 percent dehydrated so don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Keep yourself well hydrated all year long.
