300 backpacks. One big impact. 🎒💙
A big thank you to the YP Foundation for supporting Operation Backpack® and helping provide NYC students living in shelters with the school supplies they need to start the school year feeling prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

During their visit to the Operation Backpack warehouse, YP Foundation volunteers helped pack 300 backpacks for NYC students! We were happy to have Rosa Wong, one of VOA-GNY’s newest Board members and Director of the YP Foundation, join us at the warehouse for the day. We’re grateful to the YP Foundation and its volunteers for showing up for the students and families we serve!

There’s still time to make an impact. Donate to Operation Backpack® today and help equip NYC students living in shelters with the tools they need to thrive.

For Quincy Hernandez, Case Manager & Housing Specialist at Paul Family Residence, every family's journey to permanent housing starts with one thing: trust.

Navigating New York City's housing system can be overwhelming, especially for families experiencing homelessness. Quincy meets clients with empathy first—listening to their concerns, helping them understand their options, and guiding them through every step of the housing process.

Early in his role, Quincy worked with a migrant family of six who had already cycled through multiple case managers. Though new to the position, he took the initiative to research solutions, seek guidance, and stay with the family until they secured a permanent home. It became his first successful move-out—and a moment that shaped his career.

"Earning their trust by consistently showing up—that's what stays with me," Quincy says.

Today, a growing collection of family photos on his office door celebrates every successful move into permanent housing. So far, Quincy has helped 21 families find a place to call home.

Thank you, Quincy, for your compassion, persistence, and unwavering commitment to helping families build brighter futures.

Y’all!!!!

In just FOUR DAYS Broadway Serves is taking over the stage at UCB Theatre NY | Improv & Sketch Comedy for our first ever comedy-variety show fundraiser in support of our backpack drive for Volunteers of America-Greater New York & their annual operation backpack!

We have assembled some of NYC’s FUNNIEST (and wackiest) comedians together to help students in the shelter system be set up for back to school success. All ticket sales will go directly to the backpack drive - this is truly comedy for a cause!

Can you believe we’ve managed to get all-stars like Vicci Martinez Emily Tarver Alyssa Payne Road House Sketch Comedy Laura Michelle Katy Berry and so many more on the SAME SHOW?! And the one and only John Arthur Hill is the emcee?!

This is one of my first original programs in my new role at Broadway Serves and it would mean the world to me to see my friends in the audience (and purchasing live-stream tickets) to help students in need!

Link for tickets in bio! Want to find out more ways to support operation backpack or how to get more involved with Broadway Serves? DM me!

For Tatiana, Program Coordinator at Schwartz Men's Shelter, success isn't always measured by the biggest milestones. Sometimes, it's as simple as a smile.

One client, after years in foster care, shelters, rehabilitation programs, and incarceration, rarely interacted with others. When Tatiana asked if he'd help organize a donation of books, his face lit up. "I'm really happy to," he said.

"It's moments like these that remind me these guys deserve more happiness in their lives," Tatiana shared.

Every day, Tatiana helps clients access employment, education, substance use services, and other resources that support long-term stability. More importantly, she creates a space where people feel safe, respected, and seen.

Having immigrated to the U.S. from Ecuador just over two years ago, Tatiana understands what it means to start over. Her own journey—and a lifelong commitment to service—inspires the compassion she brings to her work every day.

"They just need one moment of joy. One hour where they don't feel forgotten."
Thank you, Tatiana, for helping the people we serve feel valued, supported, and never alone.

Team VOA-GNY hit the streets in full color and high spirits at this year’s NYC Pride Parade! 🌈

Staff from across our organization came together to stand with LGBTQ+ New Yorkers and allies—calling for action while celebrating the joy and community that are our greatest strength.

For us, showing up means more than providing services—it means standing together in both celebration and solidarity. As an organization committed to serving all neighbors facing homelessness, we're focused on addressing the unique challenges LGBTQ+ individuals experience—because everyone deserves safety, dignity, and support.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us! 🏳️‍🌈✊
