Your skin remembers every sunburn.

A sunburn may fade. A burn may heal. But the damage caused by UV radiation can last a lifetime.

In fact, having five or more sunburns can double your risk of melanoma—the deadliest form of skin cancer.

The good news? Many cases of skin cancer are preventable through simple habits:
✔️ Check the UV index before heading outside
✔️ Limit sun exposure during peak hours
✔️ Wear protective clothing, hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses
✔️ Apply and reapply broad-spectrum sunscreen

When melanoma is detected early, the survival rate is 99%. Prevention and early detection can save lives.

Cancer prevention is not one-size-fits-all. In our newest episode of We Speak Cancer, we speak with Michelle Zimmerman, Founder and CEO of Previvor Edge, about the future of personalized cancer prevention, risk assessment, and proactive screening.

Michelle shares how professional experience in healthcare innovation, combined with a deeply personal family history of cancer, inspired her to build a platform focused on helping individuals better understand their personal cancer risk before a diagnosis occurs.

This conversation explores important questions many patients, caregivers, and families face:
How does family history influence cancer risk?
When should someone ask about earlier or different screenings?
What role do symptoms, genetics, lifestyle, environment, and prior screening results play in prevention?
How can patients feel more informed and empowered when navigating conversations with their care team?

One of the most powerful takeaways from this episode is the importance of having a plan. For some individuals, standard screenings may not be enough. Understanding personal risk can help guide more informed conversations with clinicians, create opportunities for earlier detection, and support prevention strategies tailored to each person.

At The Chemotherapy+ Foundation, we believe education, research, and collaboration are essential to advancing cancer prevention and treatment. Conversations like this help bridge the gap between patients, clinicians, caregivers, and innovators working toward a future where more cancers are caught earlier or prevented altogether.

Cancer affects more than the body. For many patients and caregivers, the emotional weight of diagnosis, treatment, uncertainty, and survivorship can bring anxiety, depression, loneliness, and distress.

May is , a reminder that caring for our mental health is essential, especially for those facing cancer. These feelings are not signs of weakness. They are human responses to an incredibly difficult experience and they deserve support and compassion.

At TCF, we believe progress in cancer care means advancing research while honoring the whole person behind every diagnosis. Because mental health support is cancer care.

TCF is proud to spotlight Roy S. Herbst, MD, PhD, a member of our Medical Advisory Council, whose leadership continues to shape the future of lung cancer treatment.

In a recent Oncology News Central expert roundtable on EGFR-positive non-small cell lung cancer, Dr. Herbst underscored the importance of balancing treatment convenience with the ultimate goal: helping patients live longer, fuller lives.
His words capture the urgency and hope behind today’s oncology research:
“Convenience is important, but survival is more important.”

At The Chemotherapy+ Foundation, we believe progress happens when bold research, expert collaboration, and patient-centered care come together. By funding emerging oncology talent and innovative studies, we help move promising ideas closer to better outcomes for patients.

A message from our Executive Director, Paola Muggia for :

"Two years ago, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. I have an aggressive form of the disease, one that doesn't respond fully to standard treatment. In July 2025, my oncologist suggested participating in a Phase 1 clinical trial for a new targeted therapy known as an antibody drug conjugate. ADC's target specific parts of the cancer cell, sending a payload of medicine directly into the cell. This is a concept that was discussed almost 20 years ago and now the technology is here to make it a reality.

My response to date has been very good, and I'm living proof of why continued research is crucial to patients. Not all of us are made for standard treatments - we need other options to fight our disease.

Today, I'm thinking of the ovarian cancer patients I've known over the years, and the journeys they embarked on so that we could develop treatments to better fight this disease. Today is dedicated to them."

May is Melanoma & Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a reminder that awareness, prevention, and research all play a role in saving lives.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., and melanoma remains one of the most serious forms. This month, we honor those affected, encourage sun-safe habits, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting innovative cancer research that helps move prevention, treatment, and care forward.

Together, we can help fund the breakthroughs that lead to earlier detection, better treatments, and brighter futures!

May marks , a time to prioritize prevention, early detection, and regular skin checks.

Knowing the ABCDEs of skin cancer can help you monitor moles and spots for possible warning signs:
Asymmetry
Border irregularity
Color changes
Diameter larger than ¼ inch
Evolving size, shape, color, or symptoms

While not every change means cancer, noticing something new or different is a reason to speak with a dermatologist. Early detection can make a meaningful difference!

Take a few minutes this month to check your skin, schedule a skin exam, and encourage someone you love to do the same.

A reminder that routine are one of the most powerful tools we have to detect cancer earlier, when it may be easier to treat.

Yet many Americans are still not up to date on recommended screenings. According to CDC data, nearly 1 in 3 eligible U.S. adults are not up to date on colorectal cancer screening, about 1 in 4 are not up to date on cervical cancer screening, and 1 in 5 are not up to date on breast cancer screening.

Let this be your reminder to make the appointment, ask what screenings you may be due for, and encourage someone you love to do the same.
