Tonight's the night! The Ireland Funds 45th Anniversary New York Gala in the city where it all started. Four and a half decades ago, Dan Rooney & Tony O'Reilly founded The Ireland Fund with an inaugural dinner in New York. Their vision was to deliver philanthropic support to worthy causes throughout the island of Ireland.

Since then, The Ireland Funds has supported more than 3,200 nonprofits and raised over $600 million to promote and support peace, culture, education, and community development across the island of Ireland and among Irish communities around the world. Today, The Ireland Funds is one of the largest independent grant makers for the non-profit sector in Ireland.

This year's honorees reflect excellence in business, sports, philanthropy and the arts:

+ The Coca-Cola Company's President & CFO, John Murphy

+ National Football League (NFL) accepted by Commissioner, Roger Goodell
