Dear UDC Family,
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Past National President Clifford Turner, NAREB’s 24th President and the re-founder of the modern-day United Developers Council. Were it not for his vision and commitment, UDC as we know it today would not exist.
President Turner was more than a leader—he was a builder of people, organizations, and opportunities. During his presidency (2005–2007), he guided NAREB through one of the most difficult moments in our nation’s history: Hurricane Katrina. With compassion and determination, he launched Project First Step Outreach, mobilizing resources to support displaced families and demonstrating what it meant to put “Democracy in Housing” into action.
He also expanded NAREB’s national visibility, strengthened partnerships—most notably with HUD through a historic Memorandum of Understanding—and elevated our profession’s capacity for impact. A master developer, he trained and inspired Realtists to pursue real estate development as a pathway to generational wealth.
To UDC, he is especially remembered as the reviving founder. His belief that Realtists should be at the forefront of development gave birth to our renewed mission and structure. Today, every program, every toolkit, every developer we inspire carries a piece of his legacy forward.
President Turner’s trademark greetings—“How you doing, Doc?” or “Where you been?”—made every Realtist feel like family. His humor, warmth, and mentorship left an indelible mark on all of us.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Please keep them in your prayers during this time of mourning.
Let us honor him not only with our words, but by continuing the work he so passionately championed: creating opportunities, building communities, and ensuring the dream of homeownership and development is accessible to all.
In unity and service,
Kenneth M. Morrison
