Good evening below are several local Civic updates. Please share with your neighbors. Thank you.
* ENGINEERS COUNTRY CLUB RXR DEVELOPER TO BUILD 93 HOUSING UNITS - As reported int the past, RXR developers (they built at Garvies Point in Glen Cove), presented a proposal to the Town of Roslyn Heights to build several single family homes and a six story building for a total of 93 residential units. The project would be isolated to a limited number of acres close to Glen Cove Avenue and Back Road. The Civics attended the most recent proposal meeting at the Roslyn Village Hall, where many Greenvale, Glen Head, and other local residents voiced their opinions primarily against the projected exit proposed to be by Glen Cove Avenue and Back Road. The Town Board members listened to the neighbors' input; we will be attending upcoming meetings to keep everyone appraised.
* SALE OF LOCAL GH BANK'S LOCATIONS - As also reported in the past, the several locations of the local Bank in GH have been sold to a developer who built the school across from the GH firehouse. The Civics are in touch with the developer to explore his plans. He states he plans to keep all locations and rent them to businesses. The locations include: the two small office buildings across from the GH Dunkin Donuts, the three story brick building across from the hardware store, the branch location (white building), the small building located on Glen Cove Ave. next to Sam's deli, the brick apartment house where Sam' deli is located, and the ATM space located on GH Road across from the firehouse. The Bank for now maintains the new office corner brick building at the 4 corners. The developer will also relocate his own offices to the first floor of the building across from the hardware store. All bank staff has now relocated out of these buildings. The latest update is that the Bank will also be vacating the drive-through ATM location located across from the firehouse, and it is likely they will sublet the location to a drive-through Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts (no full scale store.) Again, the Civics will be monitoring the development of rentals on these properties to ensure quality of life is maintained in the community while welcoming new businesses.
* VERIZON CELL PHONE ANTENNAS - The reception for Verizon local cell phone customers has improved, however, we are advised further improvements are on the works. We will continue to insist on improvements and will keep everyone updated on the progress.
* FORMER RUG BUSINESS ON GLEN COVE AVE. NEXT TO BANK BLDG. - This property has now been purchased, we are informed by an electrical small company. We will be contacting the new owner to inform everyone of the plans for the property, thus far there are many trucks parked overnight on the south side of the building, we are inquiring to ensure this does not become permanent.
* COLLAPSED WALL ON GLEN COVE AVE. - This wall that collapsed 2 years ago, was repaired by the County, however, a second phase of the repairs - one that is likely to be a complete reconstruction - is expected to get funding on this year's county budget. We are in contact with the County and will share the progress likely in our next update.
* UPDATE ON THE NORTH SHORE WATER AUTHORITY - As reported in past bulletins, Albany approved a bill in May of 2022 creating a Water Authority for the North Shore - GH, Glenwood Landing, Sea Cliff, Brookville, parts of Glen Cove and Roslyn Harbor - for the purpose of the authority to negotiate the take over of our water supply from the current private company, and to seek lower costs for local residents. The Board established for the Authority is actively working on all of the detailed processes to achieve the goal of becoming a municipal water supplier. The funding agreed by Albany for the purpose of reaching the objective has not yet been received; we are in contact with the State on this matter and expect results to move forward shortly. We will maintain everyone informed on the progress. The Board representatives of the above Towns and Villages meet monthly at the local Library Annex, please take notice of the announced meeting dates and join us at these public meetings.
