Thank you to all the community members who attended yesterday’s meetings regarding the Propel Project, a proposal to install high voltage cables in our neighborhoods (Glen Cove Rd, Route 107, Glen Cove Ave., Glen head Road, Glenwood Road, Shore Road, etc). Our community sent a clear message that we oppose this project. Please continue to advocate for the revocation of this expensive and detrimental project.

Good evening, the following are several local Civics’ updates, please share with your neighbors. Thank you.

HOMETOWN HEROES BANNERS – The annual display of our Hometown Heroes banners has once again been successfully placed around the center of town; thanks to Bill Laderer and friends from the American Legion for their help! Any neighbors interested in having their loved heroes pictures’ displayed please contact us.
WATER AUTHORITY OF NORTH SHORE PROGRESS UPDATE – The assigned Board members from local Villages, including Glen Head and Glenwood Landing, continue their effort to move forward with the negotiations with Liberty Utilities to take over the management and water supply for the local communities at a REASONABLE price replacing Liberty and their high cost of water. The process has lately been slow as the Board members have been waiting for a long delayed delivery of funding from Albany to proceed with their negotiations. Now that the Albany budget has been approved we have been advised the funding will be delivered shortly. This will allow us to proceed, hopefully at a much faster pace as we have proactively prepared plans; this should begin hopefully by month end May. The next public meeting of the Board will be held WEDNESDAY MAY 31ST AT 7 PM – GOLD COAST LIBRARY ANNEX – 40 RAILROAD AVE. GLEN HEAD; everyone is welcome to join us at this meeting.
VERIZON CELL PHONE SERVICE IN THE GH AREA – The Civics continue to discuss the extremely poor service to Verizon cell phone users in this area. While we succeeded in getting Verizon representatives to meet with the current GH water tower owners (Liberty Utilities) to negotiate the placing of antennas on the tower – as other cell phone providers have done – their negotiations are running into other snags thus causing delays to the installation. Verizon, at our urging, is exploring other alternate locations to place their antennas, however, they advise us this will not be completed until early fourth quarter (September.) We are continuing to pursue this matter and will maintain everyone updated.
GH TRAFFIC STUDIES – A year ago the Civics requested two traffic studies be conducted by Nassau County in GH – Sheppard Street and Glen Head Road, and Roslyn Avenue and Glen Head Road - both locations have shown to be high risk when exiting or crossing these streets due to blind spots when exiting Sheppard and the high speed of cars driving east from the Railroad tracks onto Roslyn drive. Nassau County has informed us they have now concluded their studies and will be ready to inform us shortly of the results, As soon as we receive the results of these studies we will share them with the community.
WELCOME TO GLEN HEAD SIGNS – The Civics are actively seeking donors to support our plan to place welcome to GH signs. We expect to be announcing a couple of donors shortly along with the locations of the signs.

Good evening, a couple of brief updates:

* WATER AUTHORITY OF NORTH SHORE UPCOMING MEETING - The Water Authority of North Shore group meets next Tuesday January 31th - 7 PM at the Gold Coast Library Annex - 40 Railroad Ave, GH. Everyone is welcome to attend.

* HOUSING AUTHORIZED BY GOV. HOCHUL IN ALL AREAS OF THE STATE - NASSAU COUNTY INCLUDED - As you may have read, the Governor signed into law a requirement for added housing to be built specifically in the suburbs. Many communities across the state are opposing this bill; the Town of Oyster Bay has put together the below petition opposing this bill and its requirements. I urge everyone to sign this petition; more to come on this subject as it will significantly affect the quality of life in the suburbs.

Sign the petition to from Governor Hochul's housing plan, which would flood single-family home neighborhoods with thousands of apartments. High density housing will overcrowd classrooms, greatly increase traffic and cars parked on our streets, strain emergency services, and threaten the environment. Help stop her plan by signing the petition at

Good evening below are several local Civic updates. Please share with your neighbors. Thank you.

* ENGINEERS COUNTRY CLUB RXR DEVELOPER TO BUILD 93 HOUSING UNITS - As reported int the past, RXR developers (they built at Garvies Point in Glen Cove), presented a proposal to the Town of Roslyn Heights to build several single family homes and a six story building for a total of 93 residential units. The project would be isolated to a limited number of acres close to Glen Cove Avenue and Back Road. The Civics attended the most recent proposal meeting at the Roslyn Village Hall, where many Greenvale, Glen Head, and other local residents voiced their opinions primarily against the projected exit proposed to be by Glen Cove Avenue and Back Road. The Town Board members listened to the neighbors' input; we will be attending upcoming meetings to keep everyone appraised.

* SALE OF LOCAL GH BANK'S LOCATIONS - As also reported in the past, the several locations of the local Bank in GH have been sold to a developer who built the school across from the GH firehouse. The Civics are in touch with the developer to explore his plans. He states he plans to keep all locations and rent them to businesses. The locations include: the two small office buildings across from the GH Dunkin Donuts, the three story brick building across from the hardware store, the branch location (white building), the small building located on Glen Cove Ave. next to Sam's deli, the brick apartment house where Sam' deli is located, and the ATM space located on GH Road across from the firehouse. The Bank for now maintains the new office corner brick building at the 4 corners. The developer will also relocate his own offices to the first floor of the building across from the hardware store. All bank staff has now relocated out of these buildings. The latest update is that the Bank will also be vacating the drive-through ATM location located across from the firehouse, and it is likely they will sublet the location to a drive-through Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts (no full scale store.) Again, the Civics will be monitoring the development of rentals on these properties to ensure quality of life is maintained in the community while welcoming new businesses.

* VERIZON CELL PHONE ANTENNAS - The reception for Verizon local cell phone customers has improved, however, we are advised further improvements are on the works. We will continue to insist on improvements and will keep everyone updated on the progress.

* FORMER RUG BUSINESS ON GLEN COVE AVE. NEXT TO BANK BLDG. - This property has now been purchased, we are informed by an electrical small company. We will be contacting the new owner to inform everyone of the plans for the property, thus far there are many trucks parked overnight on the south side of the building, we are inquiring to ensure this does not become permanent.

* COLLAPSED WALL ON GLEN COVE AVE. - This wall that collapsed 2 years ago, was repaired by the County, however, a second phase of the repairs - one that is likely to be a complete reconstruction - is expected to get funding on this year's county budget. We are in contact with the County and will share the progress likely in our next update.

* UPDATE ON THE NORTH SHORE WATER AUTHORITY - As reported in past bulletins, Albany approved a bill in May of 2022 creating a Water Authority for the North Shore - GH, Glenwood Landing, Sea Cliff, Brookville, parts of Glen Cove and Roslyn Harbor - for the purpose of the authority to negotiate the take over of our water supply from the current private company, and to seek lower costs for local residents. The Board established for the Authority is actively working on all of the detailed processes to achieve the goal of becoming a municipal water supplier. The funding agreed by Albany for the purpose of reaching the objective has not yet been received; we are in contact with the State on this matter and expect results to move forward shortly. We will maintain everyone informed on the progress. The Board representatives of the above Towns and Villages meet monthly at the local Library Annex, please take notice of the announced meeting dates and join us at these public meetings.

Good evening,

The Civics have been working with Verizon concerning the extremely poor service Verizon cell phone users in the area have experienced during the last couple of years. As you may recall we reported about a month ago succeeding in engaging Verizon and Liberty - current owners of the GH water tower - to discuss the placing of antennas on the tower as the lack of Verizon antennas is the cause of the poor service. Finally today I received an update from Verizon reporting an agreement has been reached between the two companies and they report antennas will be placed on the tower in the upcoming couple of months. THIS IS A MAJOR SUCCESS, incredibly it took this long to resolve.

On a second related matter the local Civics are actively discussing with the Town of Oyster Bay and Liberty Utilities the installation of some sizable air conditioning units they have begun to install at the footing of the GH water tower - four are expected to be installed - to support the move of the existing cell antennas from the pole next to the tower, onto the actual tower, a move which is expected to occur also within the next couple of months. The first unit installed appears to have some violations - installed closed to the sidewalk and also extremely close to a house located below the water tower. We are working with the Town to resolve this issue.

Wishing everyone very Happy Holidays!
