“Today's Supreme Court ruling further weakens a law born out of sacrifice, struggle, and the determination of people who risked everything for the right to vote.

Voting rights remain essential to justice, representation, and the dignity of citizenship. This decision certainly weakens key protections and sets up a path that could make fair representation even more difficult.

This is a critical election year, and it is also a critical moment to call for new voting rights legislation.

Through Kingian Nonviolence, we can organize, strategize, and coordinate our efforts to combat voter suppression and create a pathway to restore and protect representation.

Register. Verify your status. Make a plan to vote. Help others do the same.

If we are serious about creating the Beloved Community, we must be serious about protecting and using the right to vote.”

A living legend, Cicely Tyson, has passed. She was a trailblazing actor and role model for black women. Rest in peace.

I met with Broadway Democrats virtually to seek their endorsement! I remain grateful and hopeful about this opportunity!

Still timely at the beginning of a new year!

National Urban League,

Dear Facebook Friends,
COVID-19 and the outbreak of racial injustices across the nation has only made the inequalities between Black America and white America more evident.

When George Floyd begged for his life as Mineapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd's throat, he was unheard.

The cries for justice have gone unheard long enough. NUL is working hard to ensure that there are measures in place to reform the police in our communities, enlist help from all community leaders, elected officials, corporate leaders and social institutions to join us in pursuing policies that promote racial reconciliation.

Please donate today to join the fight and help Black America receive the support they need to recover from this crisis. Even a small gift will make a big difference. With your support, we will organize, strategize, lobby, and we will hold these institutions accountable.

George Floyd didn’t deserve to die. Breonna Taylor didn’t deserve to die. Eric Garner didn’t deserve to die. Michael Brown didn’t deserve to die. Tamar Rice didn’t deserve to die. Freddie Gray didn’t deserve to die. Sandra Bland didn’t deserve to die.

The killing has to end.

Sincerely,

Marc H. Morial
