Family Saturdays Screening: 3 Animated Shorts 🌞
Saturday, June 6 at 11:30 AM

Va-t'en, Alfred! (Go Away, Alfred!) 11 min
Tête en l'air (Head in the Clouds) 11 min
La Colline aux cailloux (Pebble Hill) 29 min

Three animated short films about finding community despite our differences. A bird flees his homeland and wanders through a world of closed doors, until he finds an unlikely friendship; a day-dreaming squirrel seeks solace from everyday life high above the treetops; and in Pebble Hill, a family is uprooted by a flood and forced to search for a new home. Delicately drawn, with a comic touch, these films remind us that despite moments of difficulty, no one is truly alone, and that magical things often await just beyond the edge of the familiar.

On June 1st, we celebrated the 11th Art de Vivre Award honoring . A house unlike any other, Petrossian is the story of a family, a craft, and a legacy that forever changed the way the world experiences luxury.

The story begins in 1920, when two Armenian brothers arrived in Paris with something the French had never tasted before: caviar from the banks of the Caspian Sea. They convinced Auguste Escoffier at the Ritz to serve it and forever changed the story of French culinary luxury. Over a century later, Petrossian remains 100% family-owned, carried forward with elegance and passion by Mikaël and Alexandre Petrossian. 🖤

Since 2014, the Art de Vivre Award has honored influential leaders from the worlds of gastronomy, fashion, and beauty whose work embodies and elevates the French art of living.

The evening was a feast in every sense; from Caviar Madeleines by .co to 1kg of caviar nestled in an ice sculpture by . Thank you to and Philippe Delgrange for hosting the dinner and sharing our gourmandise for life. 🕯️

Screening Friday: Vladimir and Rosa + Jean-Pierre Gorin in Person

June 5 at 6:30 PM
Followed by conversation with Gorin and David Fresko

Vladimir and Rosa, why?

Because the films of the DZIGA VERTOV GROUP were tagged as Sunday school Maoism and it is time to see them for what they truly were: DIY garage punk experiments.

Because the through line of these films is a raging impiousness against the sacred cows of cinema in general and, more precisely, the lefty kind.

—Jean-Pierre Gorin

Screening with Godard in America: Spring 1970. Godard and Gorin on the road, visiting colleges, speaking with Andrew Sarris, and explaining, through their illustrated notebooks, their forthcoming (never completed) Dziga Vertov Group film about Palestine.

A historic first at L'Alliance New York.

We are honored to unveil two contemporary tapestries from the Mobilier national — Trame de compagnie by Gilou Brillant, woven in Aubusson (1990), and Le Compas du regard by Béatrice Viala-Cros, woven at the Manufacture des Gobelins (1986). This marks the very first time this storied French institution, guardian of the decorative arts since 1604, has loaned works to any Alliance Française in the world.

"The pieces were chosen to embody contemporary creation and the excellence of French savoir-faire."

Thank you to the Mobilier national for entrusting us with these rare pieces of art.

Six Tuesdays. Six films. One filmmaker unlike any other in French cinema.

The Films of Sophie Letourneur series wrapped up this week at L'Alliance New York, and we are still thinking about it. Letourneur's films blend reality and fiction, heartfelt and crude humor, and fearlessly reveal life in all its messy, unglamorous forms. L'Alliance New York Her stories are deceptively simple. Her voice is completely her own.

From Les Coquillettes to Winged Migration to Gaby Baby Doll, each screening felt like being let in on something private and true. She has been compared to Rohmer and Hong Sang-soo, and after six weeks with her work, the comparison makes complete sense.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Tuesday nights this spring. Stay tuned for what is coming to Florence Gould Theater next.
