Raise a glass to another year of bold performances, unforgettable films, and vibrant cultural experiences at L’Alliance New York. For the occasion, the icon of New York nightlife, Susanne Bartsch (Susanne Bartsch) will be making a special appearance along with DJs Mikaela (glitter_guillotine) and 4AM NYC (4am__nyc) join us on the rooftop before heading to Bartsch’s signature party downstairs 🙂

Not “back to school.” The specific September feeling of everyone returning.
English has no word for it. Just like it has no word for envol, quiproquo, retrouvailles, jaillissement, dépaysement, sillage and chahut, one for each of the first seven shows of Crossing The Line.

French artist Camille Henrot reimagines Italian Renaissance stock characters inside a modern-day New York City apartment building.
The delivery of a package triggers a cascade of uncanny events among tenants, and the tragi-comedic play attempts to make sense out of the senseless, ultimately collapsing into it.

This special site-specific short performance brings together dancers Asha Thomas and Robert Cornejo in an intimate duet that offers a sensitive lecture on communication across generations. By placing these two artists at distinct, contrasting moments in their lives and careers, the choreography becomes a living conversation where maturity and youth meet.

If you missed our Chabrol and Huppert Cinema series last month, did you know you can borrow the DVDs at the Haskell Library, on the second floor?

Our library often provides the chance to deepen your understanding of what you’ve encountered elsewhere at L’Alliance, whether it’s a film from our theater downstairs or a book recommended by a teacher at the language center upstairs.

Chabrol’s work is out-of-print and not streaming anywhere, but the Haskell Library offers a rare chance to experience his films.

Artist and graphic novelist Elene Usdin on her new installation at L’Alliance New York: “We’re drawing inspiration from my two graphic novels, even though they were originally written for teens and adults. I think it’s great to offer children something that challenges them.”

We gave the challenge of reimagining her work for a family audience by painting the walls of La Petite Galerie, a playground for our preschoolers, visitors, teachers, students, and members.
She drew primarily from two of her best-known pieces: René·e aux bois dormants and Detroit-Roma, a musical comic book created in collaboration with her son, Boni. The accompanying track echoes the haunting, reflective road-trip mood that runs through the book’s two protagonists.

The space also includes a reading corner with books from our Library, a new film program selected monthly, a coloring station, and a family guide, making La Petite Galerie a place for children and families to explore, imagine, and create together.

IT’S OPEN! La Petite Galerie has a new look.

We gave Elene Usdin carte blanche to transform the space as she imagined it. Drawn from Usdin’s graphic novels Detroit Roma and René·e aux bois dormants, as well as other works, the murals bring together distinct yet complementary landscapes.

The gallery preserves the foam elements from its previous installation, Les Tutomouves, inviting children of all ages to play, draw, read, watch films, and discover.
Visitors are invited to pick up a book, draw, watch a film, play, or simply take a moment to relax and observe.
