Imagine this: your mother ran away when you were just 3 years old. A few months later, your father was sent to prison. Your grandmother took you in but within days, she decided she didn’t want you. Desperate to help, your great-grandmother stepped in, but her age made it impossible for her to care for you. With no other family to turn to, she made the heartbreaking decision to leave you at a children’s home and say goodbye.
For most children, this story would take a darker turn. They would be placed in a state-run orphanage until they were 16-18 years old. Then upon leaving, 90% would face lives marked by crime, homelessness, prostitution, or even su***de.
But for Lisa, there was one critical difference: her great-grandmother brought her to our Life-Saving Kalaniot Children’s Home.
When Lisa entered Kalaniot, she was deeply traumatised, overwhelmed by fear, and unable to trust anyone. Our therapeutic team moved into action quickly and worked with her around the clock.
Today, this dear girl is still learning how to feel loved and build meaningful friendships. But most importantly, she now believes in the unwavering support of our loving family—a family that will never abandon her and will always love her unconditionally.
What a blessing it is to witness Lisa’s growth, but she still has a challenging road ahead and will need our steady love and support.
