Stand Up Girls NYC

Stand Up Girls NYC Inspiring & uplifting teenage girls in underserved communities through Stand Up Comedy! ! Stand Up!

Girls is a nonprofit organization whose core mission is to educate, inspire and equip girls from underserved communities with the communication skills necessary to succeed in and lead male-dominated workplaces. Through developing and performing stand-up comedy, our girls learn to own the room – be it a courtroom, operating room or boardroom.

College admissions officers aren’t just looking for perfect GPAs. They’re looking for students who can communicate, collaborate, think critically, & show up confidently as themselves!

At Stand Up! Girls , participants learn how to speak in front of a room, tell their stories, navigate challenges, build confidence, & find their voice. These are skills that serve them far beyond the stage. They show up in college interviews, classroom discussions, leadership roles, presentations, and everyday life.

The ability to communicate with confidence isn’t just a performance skill. It’s a life skill!!

🎓✨ Monday!!

Here’s a reminder from the School of Stand-Up: You are not graded on perfection. You are graded on showing up, taking risks, trusting your voice, & getting back on stage after the joke you were sure would kill... absolutely did not! 😂

The best comics aren’t the ones who never bomb. They’re the ones who stop treating every set like a final exam.

So if you’ve been editing yourself, waiting until you’re “ready,” or deleting the weird line because it feels too much... Consider this your permission slip to keep it.

➡️➡️What would be on your comedy report card? Drop one subject & your grade below. Bonus points for honesty!!! ⬇️⬇️

Ending a comedy is hard.

Ending a comedy after 5️⃣ incredible seasons? Even harder!!

What made the finale so good is that it didn’t try to be bigger than the show itself. It trusted its characters, its audience, & what it left unsaid!

HACKS was never really about late night TV. It was about Deborah & Ava: two ambitious + complicated women who challenged each other, frustrated each other, & helped each other grow.

The finale stayed true to who they were, & that’s why it worked.

No spoilers, but if you’ve watched it, we’re curious:

What’s the best TV comedy finale you’ve ever seen? 👇

A girl speaking confidently into a microphone will rearrange her life faster than people realize!

One joke turns into:
A new friend
A new voice
A new version of yourself!

Happy Friday from all of us !!

Repost from 🎥: !!

There’s something so powerful about hearing this YOUNG~ when confidence hasn’t been negotiated down yet!

This is what we’re all about : helping girls recognize their voice early, trust if often & carry it into rooms that might try to quiet it later.

If you need a reminder today- borrow hers!!! Speak like you’re allowed to be heard because guess what? YOU ARE! 💪🏽 🎤 ✨

One of the fastest ways to make stand-up more original?? stop searching for “relatable” & start getting specific!

This joke works because it’s deeply personal & instantly understandable. A name created from her parents’ names somehow sounds both heartfelt AND like a couples Instagram handle from 2014. That tension is where the laugh lives!!

In our class we talk a lot about this: audiences connect to specificity way more than general observations. Tiny weird details are comedy catnip. 🐈✨

If you don’t already follow this hysterical comic HERE: .lyle !!

And your assignment (should you choose to accept)….
What’s something in your life that sounds completely normal to your family… but objectively insane when said out loud?!

Comedy has always been more than entertainment. For a lot of women, it’s been survival with a microphone.

These comedians didn’t just make people laugh. They made anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, trauma, burnout, neurodivergence, & emotional chaos visible in a world that often asks women to package pain neatly or hide it entirely.

There’s something radical about hearing a woman say the quiet part out loud… & hearing a room laugh in recognition instead of looking away.

Mental health awareness isn’t just clinical language and coping skills. Sometimes it’s honesty with timing. Sometimes it’s confession disguised as a punchline. Sometimes it’s realizing you’re not the only person whose brain feels like twenty browser tabs playing different songs 🎤🧠

Who’s a female comic whose work made you feel seen?

This one hits because it sounds simple… until you try to actually live it!

Especially in comedy! When your brain is doing a live commentary of every joke, pause, reaction & every imagined opinion from people who aren’t even there!

But the truth is: you can’t build anything original while also trying to make it universally acceptable.

Pick one & create it anyway. Even if it shakes. Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s not “for everyone.”
