There are new lockdowns in Nairobi due to COVID. The number of infections has skyrocketed and so gatherings are not allowed and nobody may enter or leave the city of Nairobi or surrounding counties. That means that food is more scarce and more expensive. It also means that the children cannot eat at the FOLKS Center. So they are allowing children to take food home in containers. Earlier today FOLKS was visited by a ministry group that brought clothing donations and did tutoring with the children

COVID is hurting more than just the slums in Kenya. At this point MORE THAN HALF of all Kenyans are unable to eat three meals each day due to the shrinking economy.

One year into the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya, thousands of families are struggling with deepening poverty and unemployment.  A survey by the charity Twaweza, shows 60% of Kenyan families can no longer afford three meals per day. In her one-bedroom house just on the outskirts of Nairobi, Rebecc...

A coupe days ago FOLKS had a visit from a tourist that had gone to Kenya to visit the Masai Mara park and heard about Kibera. She asked her tour guide, Andrew Mweti, to bring her to Kibera so she could learn about the people and the projects there. They brought food donations. Since the schools are on Spring Break they are serving hot meals every day to the children, so it was a perfect time to visit and also a particularly important time to receive some donations. I hope that as tourism to Kenya increases (as more people get vaccinated) that more people will discover the amazing work being done in Kibera.

Yesterday was the last day of school for term 1 for every school in Kenya. Students will now be home for 7 weeks. Without charity organizations like FOLKS anf KFP many children would go hungry. Luckily the children served by our friends there in Kibera will be able to get hot meals through the break. I also brought cpmputers and devices for the kids to work on their basic skills. DOnations were used to buy new pots and a scale to track weigh gain (or loss).

Yesterday was an exciting day. One of our most needy families were able to get the wonderfult surprise of a new bedframe, mattress, table, and stools. In addition their home now has electricity so that the three girls can do their schoolwork indoors. The previous mattress had gotten wet when the February rains came. I am so happy for these little girls and I know these little things are huge in building their confidence and self-esteem. Thank you so very very much to their sponsors and other people that made donations before my last trip to Kenya last week. Please know what a huge difference you are making for them!! I will be sharing the video of the special moment directly with the sponsors.

Today was an absolutely amazing day. I cannot digest it all at once, so I am going to share it a little at a time. We visited all the kids of FOLKS and then talked with each of the sponsored kids and moms.

There were many families that had their homes destroyed to build a new road, and others damaged by rain. But today was time for smiles and a yummy lunch.

6 years ago we had a dream, a dream to upgrade our feeding program, from 5 pieces of biscuits and a glass of diluted juice for lunch to a hot plate of good meal.Today we stand tall full of energy and gratitude to all those who came and made the dream a reality.Today we honor tens of people who always donate no matter the amount of $ to ensure our children carry with pride a plate of hot meal our sponsors with pride.
