NY Sun Works We use hydroponics to educate students about sustainability and climate sciences. 🌱

Our first hydroponic lab opened in 2010 at PS 333, The Manhattan School for Children. Today, we have partnerships with 170 public schools across NYC and northern NJ, reaching over 50,000 students and 450 teachers with our STEM and sustainability science programming. In the Greenhouse Classroom, students learn the core, mandated science curriculum through the lens of urban agriculture. While master

When Emmanuella Nkansah arrived at our Youth Conference she wanted to highlight the stories of those "who used their love for agriculture to make change within their communities." 💚

Yash Gupta, is one of those people.

After witnessing how so many urban farms in Union City were struggling due to a lack of information and inefficiencies, Yash, a forward-thinking student from Sara M. Gilmore Academy developed his new app 'Agrihealth' as an AI-assistant for emerging growers.

It's the kind of inspiring story that demonstrates how our students are applying the knowledge they learn in their Hydroponic Classrooms to tackle real world challenges.

The colors were truly popping at The Island School in Manhattan yesterday! 🤩

Students rallied to harvest Basil, Cucumber, Marigold and Swiss Chard and the classroom was soon shaking with the vibrations of enthusiastic munching 🍽

Thank you so much to Natalie, Mark and Virginie, our incredible partners at Bregal Investments for joining us to harvest in the classroom they built with their very own hands back in October! Bregal have now funded 9 Hydroponic Classrooms across NYC 👏 ensuring many hundreds of students each year get to experience hands-on sustainability science education!

On we celebrate bees and other pollinators for the pivotal work they do in supporting global food security, biodiversity, and healthy ecosystems. 🐝

Bees don't usually have LinkedIn so other ways of thanking them for their work include:

🌻 Grow plants native to your region, as local bees evolved specifically to forage on them.
↔️ Diversify what you plant, mixing between blooming flowers, shrubs, and bee-friendly shade trees.
🪴 If you are a New Yorker and don't have much space, use potted plants. Window boxes and patio containers work wonderfully!

Check out all the lush produce on sale at the P-Tech Grill and Chill Farmers Market this weekend! 👏

High schoolers used their Hydroponic Classroom to grow a huge selection of herbs and vegetables before transplanting these to soil for sale.

We were thrilled to see other school departments coming together to support the students in marketing and pricing strategies. What a great model for others to try!

Why is Pinky not busy pooping away in the aquaponics tank with the others? Well, Pinky has a story.

Long ago, a tragedy befell the the PS 643 Hydroponic Classroom. Flames gutted the classroom destroying everything. But not Pinky.

Pinky was the lone survivor and earned the right to a sweet little retirement package which includes a glass fish tank. Now Pinky's tenacity to live through times of devastation inspires dozens of high schoolers every year!

Today PS 7Q Louis F Simeone officially opened its new Hydroponic Classroom!

We were honored to be joined by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards for a tour of the classroom. We cannot express how grateful we are for having such a keen advocate for sustainability science and learning in our corner.

Thank you to Principal Robert Aiello, teachers and students at PS 7Q for such making us so proud today. Your classroom looked INCREDIBLE and we can't wait to support you on your journey into this new world of scientific discovery!
