We at the Golan Development Foundation ( www.golandf.org ) are planning the first annual Blueberry Festival/County Fair this summer together with the blueberry farms in the Golan Heights. We are also inviting blueberry farmers from across Israel. Family activities for all segments of Israeli society. Russian speakers, Haredim, Tel Aviv yuppies, hipsters, etc.

Blueberry pie baking, blueberry jam making, blueberry muffins, excursions to pick-your-own blueberry farms, etc.

The Golan Heights is becoming the blueberry capital of the Middle East. Please contact me if you're interested in getting involved. We are looking for vendors, people with experience in county fairs and festivals, and those with a passion for blueberries. We are looking for people who want to run baking, cooking, and art workshops.

Here at the Golan Development Foundation we're working on many exciting projects to develop agriculture, tourism, quality of life, education and medical services in the Golan Heights.

One of the most exciting projects on the drawing board is the Blueberry Hill Park that will have thousands of blueberry bushes and trails for hiking that will become a major tourist attraction in the Golan.. people will be able to hike through the trails and pick blueberries in July and August during the harvesting season.
By the way blueberries can only grow directly in the ground in the Golan Heights and nowhere else in Israel due to the pH of the volcanic soil and the perfect amount of freezing hours in the winter.

You can donate a blueberry bush just like you can buy trees through the JNF you can buy blueberry bushes for the Golan through the GDF.

There are 23,000 Jews in 33 towns all over the Golan and 27,000 Druze in 4 villages that are located in the Northern Golan on the slopes of Mount Hermon. And yet there is not one emergency room and not one birthing room in the entire area. To give birth or for an emergency the residents of the Golan have to drive 45 minutes on average to Ziv hospital in Tzfat. So we will be building a micro-hospital in the Golan Heights. We are currently identifying the right property that will be accessible to the large Druze population in the North and the Jewish population in the Center and South of the Golan.
