On a rooftop surrounded by mentors, alumni, supporters, and friends, something powerful happened.

Our community showed up, and because of you, we raised over $36,000 toward the Class of 2028 Scholarship Fund.🎉 That’s nine students whose path to higher education just got a little clearer. For nearly 70 years, GCSA has believed that every New York City public school student deserves access to the opportunities that will change the trajectory of their life. Events like this one are how we make that possible, and this moment matters more than ever as we work to ensure future generations of students aren’t left behind.

We are so deeply grateful to everyone who made the 2026 Scholars Benefit an evening to remember.

✨ Congratulations to our Honorees:
Raika Islam & Patricia “Patti” Hoban – Mentor-Mentee Pair Award
Burgandy McCurty, Theodore “Teddy” MacDonald, Bao Ngoc Nguyen & John “JD” Duong – Outstanding New Mentor Award

Last week, as part of our programming, our students had the opportunity to learn from Jac Cooper and Eric Mayhue from AMG National Trust.

Students engaged in meaningful conversations about budgeting, short-term savings goals, managing expenses, credit building, and the basics of investing. They also explored Investopedia’s simulator, giving them a chance to practice what they learned and continue building confidence with financial decision-making.

A big thank you to Jac, Eric, and AMG National Trust for four years of partnership and for making these sessions so engaging and impactful for our students. 💸✨

With National Volunteer Week coming to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize the mentors who make our work possible 💜

This year, 52 mentors are supporting students in our Class of 2028, alongside many others who have shown up for our community throughout the year. Their time, consistency, and care are at the heart of what we do.

Today, we’re proud to spotlight one of those mentors: Teddy, a 2026 Scholars Benefit Outstanding New Mentor Award honoree!

Teddy consistently shows up during our program sessions to support his mentee Mason, a 10th grader at Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology—bringing not just advice, but follow-through. Week after week, he chooses to attend sessions in person, creating space for connection and trust to grow.

This week, he took it a step further. Drawing on his network, Teddy created an experience aligned with Mason’s interest in tech. Together, they visited Newlab, where Mason explored a real innovation space and got a closer look at what a future in tech can look like.

We’re grateful for Teddy and for all of the mentors who continue to invest their time, energy, and care into our students.

Join us in celebrating Teddy and our incredible mentor community at our upcoming Scholars Benefit. Ticket link in bio.🎉

GCSA was thrilled to participate in the Urban Assembly School of Design and Construction’s 3rd annual Pathways Symposium last Friday. It was a powerful day designed for students to explore diverse career options and college pathways while interacting with industry professionals and gaining insights through various panels and workshops.

GCSA helped organize a financial literacy workshop for seniors, led by Citizens Bank, which focused on college finances and navigating the FAFSA application. Later in the day, Citizens Bank also hosted a table at the afternoon fair to introduce students to various banking options.

Additionally, our own Charmain facilitated a 16 Personalities workshop for freshmen, providing them the opportunity to explore their traits, understand their strengths, and begin connecting those attributes to potential career paths.

Adding to the day’s impact, SDC alumni from the classes of 2022, 2024, and 2025 returned to campus to serve on a panel. It was especially meaningful to see them return not just as graduates, but as mentors sharing their experiences and insights.

Thank you to Jose Lee and Stephanie Almonte from Citizens Bank for supporting the students. We also extend our thanks to the SDC staff and leadership for allowing us to be a part of this impactful day.

Break Ground This Giving Tuesday: Support the Class of 2028!

For nearly 70 years, GCSA has provided NYC students with scholarships. However, that legacy is at risk. Without your support, the Class of 2028 will be the last class to receive scholarships at the current scale.

This , launch the Class of 2028 Scholarship Fund with us. Your donation ensures our students continue to receive the scholarships they need to access postsecondary education and build stable futures.

✨ Be a Groundbreaker! ✨

Here’s how you can take action and secure our legacy:

🧱 Be a Base Builder — Give $25+: You’ll be recognized on the GCSA website as an Early Supporter of the scholarship fund.

🏗️ Be a Foundation Setter — Give $100+: You’ll be recognized on the GCSA website and included in GCSA’s FY26 Annual Report.

⛏️ Be a Groundbreaker — Give $250+: You receive all previous recognition, a social media shout-out the day after Giving Tuesday, PLUS a complimentary ticket to our Annual Scholars Benefit in the spring!

Today, our goal is to raise $8,000, which covers 2 scholarships—help us reach our goal!
