Last Friday, we brought students, mentors, families, alumni, and friends together for our 4th Annual GCSA Summer Picnic in Central Park! 🌳☀️

From games and good food to conversations and new connections, the afternoon was a chance to celebrate the people who make the GCSA community so special and kick off another year of learning and opportunity.

A special thank you to the mentors who joined us and continue to show up for our students: Judith, Perry, Talia, Elizabeth, Nicola, and Teddy, as well as all of the parents who came out to celebrate with us. Your time, encouragement, and support make a difference.

Shoutout to our Student Ambassadors – Jessica, Angelita, Victoria, Morrie, Josiah, and Dhanaris! Thank you for welcoming members of our community and helping bring the picnic to life.

And thank you to everyone who came, connected, played, laughed, and helped make the afternoon such a great one. We’re grateful to have you in our community.

What does it take to redesign a book cover? 📚

Over the past three weeks, GCSA students got a firsthand look at what that work really looks like.

Working alongside professionals at Penguin Random House, students explored the publishing industry while discovering how research, storytelling, collaboration, and design come together to bring books to life.

From observing live cover design meetings to developing their own moodboard concepts and receiving feedback from creative teams, students experienced the publishing process from the inside out.

The experience culminated in students presenting their creative direction to Penguin Random House staff, showcasing not only their thoughtful design concepts, but also the confidence and professional skills they developed along the way.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Penguin Random House for opening your doors, sharing your expertise, and inspiring the next generation of young professionals.

Two weeks down, one to go!📚

Our Penguin Random House Job Shadowing Experience has been an unforgettable opportunity for 10 GCSA students to explore the world of publishing. From shadowing the Cover Art & Design teams and sitting in on real workplace meetings to visiting the iconic book NYC store, Books of Wonder, students have been getting a behind-the-scenes look at how books go from an idea to the shelves.

Now, they’re putting everything they’ve learned into their final project—redesigning an existing book cover for a new target audience using market research, creativity, and thoughtful design.

A huge thank you to our incredible partners at Penguin Random House and Books of Wonder for welcoming our students, sharing your expertise, and inspiring the next generation of creative professionals. We can’t wait to see our students’ final presentations next week! 📖🎨✨

✨ Exceptional. Challenging. Unforgettable.

Just a few of the words students used to describe GCSA’s first-ever Summer Career Readiness Academy!

Over the course of one week, students stepped into the role of consultants, tackling real-world challenges facing GCSA. They conducted research, collaborated in teams, and presented their recommendations during Demo Day.

Along the way, students visited professional workplaces, learned from industry leaders, and practiced the skills that power today’s workplaces: communication, public speaking, technology, and professional collaboration.

A huge thank you to our hosts, Edwin Gould Foundation and CYLNDR STUDIOS, for welcoming our students, and to Perry Wilson, Dylan Rothschild, Janeita Bellamy, and Emily Reardon for investing your time and knowledge in the next generation of leaders.

Most importantly, thank you to our students. You showed up ready to learn, challenge yourselves, support one another, and grow. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
