Boys and girls, in a group, reflect on the things that they love about themselves, what makes them unique, their hopes wishes and dreams, and they color coordinate the color of the stones to those feelings. They create meaningful jewelry to wear as a constant visual reminder of their uniqueness, strengths, talents, and love for themselves.

The boys in our groups love making jewelry as much as the girls! One of our favorite quotes is “ creativity knows no gender.” In our creative rooms we post up photos of various male entertainers, sports stars, Disney stars, and various positive male figures wearing colorful beaded bracelets as inspiration for the boys to create! Our groups are co-ed, ages 7 to 12, and for children affected by domestic trauma, abuse, and children in foster care.

In our groups children write down their hopes, wishes, and dreams, color coordinate the beads to those thoughts, then each child shares those thoughts holding a talking stick! It’s an incredible way for a child to hear themselves aloud as well as a positive sounding board for them to relate with each other.

The children who partake in our groups could perhaps be hearing themselves talk about what they love about themselves, what makes them unique, and their strengths, for the very first time. We encourage children to see the very best in themselves so they can move forward in life with greater self-esteem.

Love is the greatest gift – for oneself, for each other, and for the world. As we all know, a happy child makes for a happy adult, and an unhappy child most often makes for an unhappy adult. We encourage and support children during difficult times in their lives to recognize love for themselves, respect for themselves, and value their uniqueness - with the end goal of changing their life trajectory.

A Place To Be(ad) Me

We are a group of individuals, positive change-makers, dedicated to shifting the life trajectory of children who have experienced domestic emotional trauma and are consequently more vulnerable to various forms of dysfunction, victimization, or socially developmental impediments. We endeavor to build their resilience, equip them with self esteem, and help improve their emotional development through exposure to creativity and positive mentorship.

OUR VISION

A Place To Be(ad) Me is an artistic safe haven for children and young teenagers from home environments experiencing upheaval, such as a divorce, separation, domestic violence, or other traumatic events. We provide a unique place where our youth can create and dream, grow and build, and become autonomous individuals outside of the stressors in their family. Studies show that even the most resilient children are deeply impacted by a dramatic change in their caretakers’ lives, leading to anxiety, poor school performance, and lessened self-confidence. However, children are less likely to feel these impacts, of course, if the exposure to such conflict and stress in the home is limited. We lessen those impacts by providing a happy, positive, trauma-free environment where children are given the attention to flourish and thrive.
