As a young kid growing up in Leeds Village, Corentyne, my parents did not have much, but my childhood was good! Despite the hardships, my siblings and I thrived. Looking back, I realize how villagers’ support contributed to our overall well-being and happiness. I invoke the name of a few: Clarabelle Henry who we called Aunty Bonnie, Uranie Johnson who we called Teacher, Baby Ken, Hazel Alert and Yvonne Peters. These great and genuine women helped my mother, Joan Francena Winter. They kept her afloat during her times of need.
So, this work I am doing today to support children in the village, through Beulah Children’s Organization, grows from the seed of my childhood experiences. It grows from the kindness of these women. People helped me. I am happy to help children, and families.
As long as God sees it fit, I will give back and continuously return to help the children in my hometown, and across the globe. I will continue to impact a child's life in whatever way I can, whether it is a simple backpack, pencil, and a book with a smile. This is the mission of Beulah Children’s Organization. Today, we look forward to supporting a young woman in the Corentyne, who will be pursuing her doctorate degree in medicine, knowing that when we seed into her, we seed into athe village. Together we grow.
I am excited for 2020!
