⚜️The 6th Annual French Heritage Corridor Conference brought together partners, scholars and community members to explore the depth and diversity of the FHC network. This year’s conference spanned two days: the first day was hosted at the Alliance Française of Minneapolis/St. Paul, and the second featured a full day of chartered bus visits to FHC sites throughout the Twin Cities and Little Canada.

Discussions throughout the conference highlighted the region’s shared history and longstanding connections with Native American Tribes, France, Québec and communities across Canada. Félicitations to Brian Hawkins, the inaugural recipient of the Charles Balesi FHC Vision Award. May the example set by both Charles and Brian inspire many others to pursue excellence in advancing the mission of the FHC.

A heartfelt thank‑you to everyone who participated, and especially to Lisa Kahn, French Heritage Corridor Director and FHS Chicago–Midwest Chapter Chair. The FHC extends sincere gratitude to their sponsors, including the Alliance Française Minneapolis/St. Paul; the Québec Delegation in Chicago; the French American Heritage Foundation of Minnesota; the City of Little Canada; the Little Canada Historical Society; La Compagnie des Hivernants de la Rivière de St. Pierre; the Minnesota Historical Society; the Historic Fort Snelling Plank Museum and Visitor Center; Dan Chouinard; Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Minneapolis; historian John Vanek; the Archeological Conservancy; Reed Centracchio Law Firm; and the William T. Kemper Foundation. Merci beaucoup!

Happy ! This summer, we’re celebrating the 250th anniversary of American Independence by highlighting sites across France with special connections to the American Revolution. Today’s story features the Lodge of the Nine Sisters.

Beginning in 1776, this Parisian lodge brought together French and American intellectuals, including Benjamin Franklin. It became a vibrant center for exchanging ideas about liberty and progress, while discreetly supporting the American Revolution through its influence. The lodge stands as an early symbol of Franco‑American cooperation and shared Enlightenment ideals.

Day 3 of our Secret Paris Members Trip was a celebration of restoration, history and hidden beauty.

Our travelers enjoyed an exclusive visit to the newly restored towers of , a landmark especially meaningful to FHS as it was a grant recipient following the 2019 fire. We were honored to witness the extraordinary craftsmanship that brought this icon back to life.

The day continued with a private tour of the Hôtel de Salm / Palais de la Légion d’Honneur , a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture, and a stop at the enchanting , a rare example of early 20th-century chinoiserie in the heart of Paris. Travelers also enjoyed learning more about the historic Hôtel de Talleyrand and its diplomatic legacy.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our travelers and to for capturing the magic of the day with such beautiful photographs.

Happy ! This summer, we’re celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence by highlighting sites across France with special connections to the American Revolution. Today’s story features the Chapel of the Jesuits of Saint-Omer.

In 1742, members of the Carroll family studied at the Jesuit College of Saint-Omer, receiving an education that later shaped their roles in America. Daniel, John, and Charles Carroll became key figures in U.S. independence, contributing to the founding of institutions, political leadership, and the drafting of essential documents such as the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

In 2017, FHS supported the restoration of the Chapel of the Jesuits of Saint-Omer with a $250,000 grant. To learn more about our 700+ grantees, visit the link in our bio.

✨ FHS’s Paris Gala, le Dîner des Mécènes, brought together members and friends at the stunning to celebrate French-American friendship and our shared commitment to heritage.

On May 20, we were delighted to honor Ariane and Lionel Sauvage, who are outstanding examples of philanthropists dedicated to culture and heritage. Distinguished collectors of 18th-century paintings and drawings, they support numerous French and American institutions through the Ariane and Lionel Sauvage Fund. In 2025, Lionel Sauvage was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Lionel Sauvage delivered a moving speech reflecting on heritage, philanthropy, and Franco-American friendship - particularly meaningful during this year’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American independence. His words resonated deeply with all gathered that evening.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported this event and our mission to ensure that the treasures of French architectural and cultural heritage continue to inspire future generations.

After an elegant night at our Dîner des Mécènes, our 2026 Members’ Trip through Paris and its surroundings continued with a journey back in time to the court of Louis XV.

Travelers enjoyed an excursion to the where, since our founding in 1982, FHS has contributed over $400,000 toward restoration projects at the Château. We were granted the rare privilege of visiting the private apartments of the Marquise de Pompadour, the Comtesse du Barry, and King Louis XV - all normally closed to the public.

Clara Terreaux, 18th-Century Painting Curator, offered the Travelers an intimate glimpse into the private world of the women who shaped Louis XV’s reign within these secluded interiors, far removed from the grandeur of the State Apartments. Following lunch at .ducasseauchateauversailles overlooking the Royal Courtyard, the group enjoyed an exclusive tour of King Louis XV’s private apartments led by Bertrand Rondot, Chief Curator of 18th-Century Furniture and Decorative Arts. Members explored rooms rich in history, including private cabinets, salons, libraries, and scientific spaces that reflected the king’s passion for study and research. This exceptional visit revealed a more personal dimension of the monarchy and offered deeper insight into daily life at Versailles during the reign of Louis XV.

Back in Paris, the day concluded with a cocktail reception at the private home of Jean-Guillaume de Tocqueville d’Hérouville, the new President of French Heritage Society, and his wife, Stéphanie, in their elegant Haussmann-style apartment. We thank them sincerely for their gracious hospitality.
