NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has proposed a rule that beginning August 1, 2025, every Business Improvement District (BID) and group that provides cleaning services on city sidewalks, streets, public plazas, curbs, or gutters will be required to keep bags of trash off the street. Groups can select a sanitation garage for bag disposal, set on-street containers, or place movable wheelie bins out for collection.

DSNY will hold a virtual public hearing on the proposed rule at 10:00 a.m. on February 10, 2025. BIG NEWS: assault of a retail worker is now a felony in New York 🚨 Yesterday, we were proud to celebrate this critical proposal-turned-law, sponsored by New York State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and supported by the Staten Island District Attorney's Office.

Among the speakers at the announcement was Frank Wilkinson, Chair of the North Hylan Merchants Association and owner of Rab's Country Lanes. Frank spoke about safety as a top priority for Staten Island businesses and employees.

We thank our public officials and law enforcement agencies for supporting this law and the safety of our merchants.

This month, we hosted a Merchant Drop-In at Advance Lock & Key, offering a chance for local businesses along North Hylan to pop in, speak with fellow merchants, and learn more about our efforts to support the growth and development of our business community.
