This past weekend, Olivia Rodrigo, 23, launched Daisy Chain Fields, a new music festival bringing women in music and philanthropy together to support and uplift women and girls.

Raising a total of $20 million, including a generous $10 million matching gift from Melinda French Gates, attendees enjoyed performances from artists like Chappell Roan, Doechii, Sara McLachlan, and Stevie Nicks. They also had the opportunity to learn about and support organizations working across reproductive rights, maternal health, economic empowerment, domestic violence prevention, and gender equity. G4GC is especially proud to see two of our grantee partners, the National Women’s Law Center and FreeFrom, among the nonprofits involved in this incredible event.

This past weekend, Olivia Rodrigo, 23, showed the world that philanthropy isn’t just for billionaires. Through the launch of Daisy Chain Fields, a new music festival, Rodrigo brought women in music together to support and uplift women and girls.

Raising a total of $20 million, including a generous $10 million matching gift from Melinda French Gates, attendees enjoyed performances from artists like Chappell Roan, Doechii, Sara McLachlan, and Stevie Nicks. Join us in welcoming G4GC's new Senior Director of Research, Learning, and Impact, Dr. Derrika L. Hunt!

Derrika L. Hunt, PhD, brings a breadth of experience as an educator, linguist, cultural anthropologist, multimedia artist, and trauma-informed social worker whose work moves across continents, languages, and forms of knowledge. Shaped by years of direct service and a deep commitment to learning from people, places and stories, Dr. Hunt's work centers storytelling, imagination, and transnational solidarity-building as tools for collective liberation. Above all, Derrika is the daughter of Sylvia Renee--the title she is most proud of.

G4GC's Black Girl Freedom Fund (BGFF) invests in the brilliance, leadership, and freedom of Black girls and gender-expansive youth.

Launched in September 2020 alongside the campaign, BGFF mobilizes resources to support organizations that center, serve, and/or are led by Black girls and gender-expansive youth, while investing in their well-being, leadership, creativity, and visions for the future.

Through participatory grantmaking, Black girls and gender-expansive youth serve as final decision-makers on many of the grants we award, ensuring that young people are not only resourced, but centered in decisions about where resources go.

Beyond grantmaking, BGFF hosts an annual Black Girl Freedom Week, creating space to celebrate and invest in the joy, innovation, activism, artistic vision, and leadership of Black girls and gender-expansive youth.

We’re proud to continue building a future where Black girls and gender-expansive youth have the resources, power, and freedom to thrive.

This weekend, G4GC joined ENVSN Festival as a partner for two days centered on culture, creativity, community, and what becomes possible when young people have spaces designed with them in mind.

Sharifa Murdock and Laura Stylez have built ENVSN with a clear understanding that our young people deserve spaces where their ideas, expression, and leadership are taken seriously. We’re grateful for their vision and for the opportunity to be in community with everyone who brought the weekend to life.

At G4GC, we believe in the power of strong ecosystems for girls and gender-expansive youth of color. ENVSN is part of that ecosystem, and we were glad to be there.

Last month, Nurturing Wāhine Fund (NWF) convened at Gloria Steinem’s home in NY for a conversation about the collective action needed to nurture thriving communities.

As an immigrant-led feminist fund, NWF provides grants and wellness programs for women and girls in Hawaiʻi’.

G4GC is proud to support Nurturing Wāhine Fund and their mission to strengthen the mental and physical health of women and girls by building supportive networks within existing institutions, creating safe spaces, and dismantling systemic barriers.
