As Israel prepares to choose its next government, we are reminded of a simple truth: We are meant to strengthen one another.

We in the Diaspora feel deeply connected to Israel and its people. We pray for its safety, mourn its losses, celebrate its achievements, advocate for its security, and teach our children that Israel is central to the story of the Jewish people.

As Reform Jews, we believe in supporting Israel while challenging it to live up to the ideals in its Declaration of Independence: freedom, justice, peace, equality, and religious liberty.

This public letter is a message from members of the Jewish Diaspora to the Israeli Jewish community. By signing on, you and/or your organization can add your voice to that message: https://urj.tfaforms.net/2031

For the second time in less than ten days, a Reform synagogue in Israel has been vandalized. We condemn these attacks unequivocally.

Congregation Darchei Noam in Ramat Hasharon and Jerusalem’s Kehilat Kol HaNeshama are vibrant Reform congregations. The impact of these attacks is felt by all those who value the fundamental right of Jews to practice Judaism in the way that speaks to them. We call on the authorities to investigate them fully and hold those responsible accountable.

To our Reform colleagues, families, children, and all those who feel a connection to our Movement and to these congregations, and all those who feel threatened by these senseless acts of hatred: you are not alone. We, your extended family in North America, stand with you.
