Como quizás saben, los trabajadores del Sindicato de Trabajadores de Restaurantes Local 1 llevan más de un año luchando con los propietarios de Lodi para que reconozcan nuestro derecho democrático a negociar colectivamente salarios y condiciones de trabajo justos. En respuesta, los propietarios han utilizado tácticas deshonestas e ilegales de represión antisindical para arruinar las elecciones de la NLRB e intimidar a los trabajadores, induciendo al miedo y la complacencia, algunas de las cuales se detallan en el New York Times de mayo.

La NLRB ha presentado cargos por prácticas laborales injustas contra los propietarios y la dirección del restaurante y está solicitando una orden de negociación en virtud de la reciente decisión de Cemex. As you may be aware, the workers of the Restaurant Workers Union Local 1 have been struggling with the owners of Lodi for over a year to recognize our democratic right to collectively bargain for fair wages and working conditions. In response, the owners have used underhanded and illegal union busting tactics to spoil the NLRB election and bully workers into fear and complacency, some of which is detailed in the New York Times in May.

The NLRB has brought unfair labor practice charges against the restaurant’s owners and management and is seeking a bargaining order under the recent Cemex decision. In this crucial period leading up to our hearing on September 9 at 26 Federal Plaza, we are asking for support and solidarity to our membership, letting them know that they are not alone in their struggle.

UPDATE ON THE UNION EFFORT AT LODI❗️

The NLRB has issued 24 federal charges against Mattos Hospitality for their illegal union-busting behavior leading up to the election. They include surveillance, threatening retaliation, implying unionizing will affect immigration status and more.

The federal government is seeking recognition of RWU-STR Local 1 at Lodi and a bargaining order as per Cemex. A trial will be held on June 24 if Mattos Hospitality and Lodi do not settle. We are ready to improve the working conditions of workers at Lodi and continue the fight to raise the standards for the restaurant industry as a whole!

"It's hardly a surprise that management of highly-acclaimed New York restaurants might feel at liberty to push back so forcefully (and illegally) against organizing efforts. The restaurant world in New York is one of those industries that, because of its air of prestige, might be thought of as exempt from or less compatible with the idea that workers deserve a fair contract. Diego Opperman, a representative for the Restaurant Workers Union Local 1 who does not work at Lodi, told Hell Gate in an interview that 'entire generations have passed since unions had a significant presence in the restaurant sector.'"
