Let’s Talk Uterine Fibroids πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸ–€πŸ–€

Normalize having conversations centered around menstrual cycles. Many women are experiencing abnormal menstrual cycles and believe that what they’re experiencing is normal.

A heavy menstrual cycle is not normal. Spotting and or bleeding between your menstrual cycle is not normal. Excruciating pain during your menstrual cycles is not normal. Early detection is critical!!!✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿.

Black Maternal week 2025. This week is echo our voices and lived experiences of Black Mothers. Despite the sad reality of Black Women being disproportionately affected by Maternal Mortality and Morbidity, we must continue the work of educating, advocating, supporting and championing the causes . We must remain focus. We must do the work. As a Black Woman, we deserve to be seen, respected, and heard during pregnancy and postpartum periods. πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸ™πŸΏπŸ™πŸΏπŸ™πŸΏπŸ™πŸΏ

The month of December is very dear to my heart. December reminds me of my passion, my strength, and resilience as a black woman.

This month marked 3 years since I undergo an open abdominal myomectomy to remove Uterine Fibroids. The most scariest experience to date; I wish my mother and or one of my sisters were there with me. Nevertheless, they were with me virtually and in spirit. I also had the support of my social media females, who are also victims of Uterine Fibroids. I say thank you again, to each and every one of you who prayed, supported, and rallied with me.

As a Health Educator and Women Reproductive Health Advocate, my work and passion continues. I thrive to reach many other women and girls who may be suffering silently or who may believe their symptoms are normal.

The fight continues against women reproductive health issues. We continue to place emphasis on . Every menstruating individual must pay close attention to their monthly cycles. Growing up within our black communities, reproductive health issues was deemed a secret, shamefulness, being less of a woman, to name a few. We must break that stigma.

Every menstruating individual is susceptible to reproductive health issues, example Uterine Fibroids, Endometriosis, Polycystic cystic Ovarian Syndrome, and Adenomyosis, to name a few.

For the purpose of this continued awareness, we will focus on Uterine Fibroids. Uterine Fibroids being one of the most common women reproductive health issues can negatively impact a woman’s day to day life. Below are some key signs and symptoms woman must pay attention to.

. What are they?

Uterine Fibroids, medically known as Leioymyoma, are benign(no-cancerous) growths in the Uterus. Uterine Fibroids most commonly affect women during their child-bearing age. Uterine Fibroids are prevalent in and ( meaning, more black and brown women are affected by this women's health issue compared to any other race).

and of include the following.

2) Radiating Pelvic pain.
3) Heavy and painful menstrual cycles( often associated with blood clots).

6) Frequent constipation.
7) Back pain.
8 ) Frequent urination.

.

1) Anemia due to heavier than usual menstrual periods.
2) Miscarriages.
3) Painful in*******se.
4) Infertility.
5) Difficulty standing for an extended period.

My goal as a Health Educator is to bring awareness to this serious health issue. Also, encourage women to pay attention to the signs and symptoms commonly associated with Uterine Fibroids. Finally, to encourage women to see their Doctors/care team and have a conversation.
Together, we can help other women who may be experiencing various symptoms associated with Uterine Fibroids to take their health seriously by seeing their doctors and managing their day-to-day challenges.
