“Why, in spaces like Broadway, do we still invest in stories about or including marginalized people predominantly told by white cis men, whose careers have historically been amplified by systemic privilege and opportunities, often at the expense of said marginalized voices?
Investing in historically excluded writers—Black, brown, q***r, trans, disabled, and other marginalized communities—is not just an act of equitability; it’s imperative for the future of our art form. And considering the current political climate, particularly the alarming rhetoric targeting trans people, investing in trans writers is not only important, but critically urgent.
We, as an organization, have been investigating and collecting data on the best way to support trans practioners in the entertainment industry for the past five years while supporting trans artists in their endeavors.
We, as an industry, must collectively champion a vital shift to nurturing trans and gender expansive voices. TEG can provide direct support and resources to trans storytellers with your help. Will you invest?”
The Trans Entertainment Guild (TEG) is a Trans-led Arts-Advocacy Organization dedicated to improving the working conditions and lives of trans and gender expansive entertainment workers including artists, technicians, and arts administrators. We will be announcing a town hall for trans and gender expansive writers to meet and discuss what resources they need to not only complete their work, but to also help improve their lives, with collected information to be shared with the industry at large.
To invest in TEG’s mission, consider making a one-time or monthly donation through our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas: bit.ly/TEG_fundraising
