The Silber Hearts, Kids Helping Kids Community Service is a wonderful way to teach our kids that they can make a difference in the world

The Silber Hearts, Kids Helping Kids, was founded during the pandemic of 2020 with the mission of encouraging philanthropy in young people. My kids have asked how we can contribute to others who might have needs that we can help with, so I encouraged them to think about ways that they can organize their friends and our community to give of their time and themselves. They have come up with many gre

at ideas and we hope to continue to make coming together around giving the norm. Children naturally love to help others, and the experience of giving actually improves mood, fosters compassion, and gives children a greater appreciation for what they have. Becoming involved in community service is a wonderful way to teach our children that they can make a difference in the world. When children see that they have the power to improve the lives of others, they feel empowered and also develop a sense of responsibility that comes with the ability to give, regardless of the scale. Charitable children are more likely to grow up grateful for what they have and passionate about causes that are important to them.

Please consider donating your new or gently used test-prep materials if you’re done using them. We’re collecting ACT, SAT, Regents and AP materials for underserved populations in the hopes of giving others some of the same opportunities we have to get the best education possible. Let’s do what we can to help our neighbors! Thanks for your support.

It’s rainy. It’s almost summer. We’re all packing for trips, cramming for Regents, and running on iced coffee and chaos. BUT

Let’s not forget the students who need us most.

If you have any gently used test prep books like SAT, ACT, AP, or Regents, please drop them off today at the Curb Your Mitzvah bin at the ANNEX (200 Forest Dr, Suite 11).

Let’s give every student the tools they need to succeed. And while you’re at it, the pantry is always in need of supplies too.

Let’s finish the year strong, together.

Join "The Breakfast Club" and Help Fight Hunger

Hi everyone,

Food insecurity is a big problem, even here on the North Shore. A lot of kids in our community start their day without breakfast, which is super important for focus, learning, and health. Cereal, something so simple, is one of the least donated items to food banks, and that needs to change.

That’s why I’m organizing a biannual cereal drive to stock the shelves at the JCC’s food bank. This food bank not only helps local families but also supports other food banks when they’re running low. Breakfast is key for brain health and success, and we need to make sure no kid is starting their day hungry.

Please consider donating cereal to support this drive. Every box makes a difference, and together we can help make sure no one goes without breakfast.

Thanks for your support! Gabe

Urgent Alert: Our Students Face Psychological Warfare Amidst Antisemitism on Campuses

As the semester ends, an unacceptable reality unfolds on our college campuses, plunging Jewish students into a deep psychological crisis. Freshmen and seniors alike are ending what should have been enriching academic journeys under the shadow of fear and isolation, compelled to stay in their dorms or even return home due to escalating antisemitic threats.

This surge in hostility is not merely disturbing—it's supported by individuals advocating violence under the pretext of political protest, including extreme statements like "death to Jews." Our college administrations appear unable to control these dangerous incidents, leaving our students exposed and vulnerable.

The emotional toll is immense. All students, especially those with pre-existing mental health conditions, face increased risks of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and even suicidality. This is a moment of intense stress, worry, disappointment, and anger for students and their families.

Higher education is meant to be a beacon of knowledge and personal growth, not a battleground of hatred and fear. We demand immediate and decisive action from our institutions to protect our students and ensure that campuses are safe and inclusive spaces for learning.

Join us by signing the petition to demand that our universities take a stand against violence and antisemitism, and recognize the severe psychological impact these incidents are having on our students.

Together, let’s ensure that our educational institutions fulfill their true purpose and protect the well-being of every student. Your voice can drive change—sign and share today.

Confronting Campus Antisemitism: Urgent Action to Protect Students' Mental Health

04/24/2024

We must urgently recognize and commend Shai Davidai for his valiant stand against the deeply entrenched and dangerous antisemitism at Columbia University. His historical insights remind us of the 1930s, a grim era when millions stood by as Hi**er rose to power and laid the groundwork for unimaginable atrocities. Shai fearlessly highlights the parallels today, calling out those in positions of authority, including Columbia's COO, for their failure to act decisively.

It is appalling that Shai, a respected professor, was barred from his own campus due to fears of extremist backlash supported by pro-Hamas sentiments. Holloway's refusal to allow Shai to enter Columbia's campus on the pretext of preventing campus unrest, and all he wanted to do was to read the names of the 133 hostages held by Hamas. This is an abdication of morality. This decision underscores a harrowing truth: intellectualism and education do not inherently protect against the rise of hate and extremism.

This is not merely about campus politics; it is a stark warning of a potential new wave of Jewish oppression. We must take immediate and unwavering action against antisemitism in all its forms. The right to free speech on college campuses does not extend to inciting hatred, sadness, or persecution. We will not stand by as mob mentality threatens the safety and dignity of our people.

Shai Davidai is not just speaking; he is shouting from the rooftops that we cannot and will not allow history to repeat itself. As a community, we rally behind him, empowered by his courage to ensure that our students and faculty feel safe and supported. This will not be tolerated. This will not be allowed!

Thank you, Shai, for your tireless efforts and for being the formidable voice and guardian of our community. Your actions inspire all of us to stand together against the tide of antisemitism, no matter how powerful or intimidating the opposition may seem.
