Recent high school grad, Trey Baker returns to his high school during winter break to mentor students and now the school is creating a mentorship program. He believes it is important to give back to the school that helped mold him into who he is and set him up for success.¶

September polling from EdChoice and Morning Consult shows that teens still report negative impacts of the pandemic on their mental health and overall well-being, with 55% saying their stress is worse than it was pre-pandemic.

The pandemic has impacted students beyond education. Expanding access to tutoring and mentoring programs that can foster personal fulfillment and encourage social interactions will help alleviate these issues.

" Researchers reviewed diagnostic scores from more than nine million students around the country and found that the number of students performing two or more grade levels below their actual grade level was greater than before the pandemic." The challenges of lower school performance were most pronounced for students in schools serving mostly minority students and in schools in lower-income zip codes. From understanding this, the responsibility lies on district leaders to support students.
