Sleepless Nights: "The Emotional Toll of Combat Soldiers' Parents", an article by Dr. Shiri Daniels

"Since my son returned from reserve duty, he isn't functioning. He isolates himself in his room, sleeps until noon, and has stopped working. I see him disappearing before my eyes, and I have no way to reach him."

"These are testimonies of a daily struggle of thousands of families in Israel over the past two years. Tens of thousands of calls have reached ERAN during two years of war from parents of combat soldiers who find themselves at the heart of two fronts: the military one – while their children are serving the country, and the home front – coping with unrelenting daily stress, continuous worry, and a feeling of lack of control."

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis at risk for treatment-resistant depression, but there is hope for recovery.

Dr. Daniela Amital, Director of the Psychiatry Division at Barzilai Hospital, reveals that there has been an approximately 50% increase in referrals to the hospital's mental health clinics in the past year, explains what treatment-resistant depression is, how lack of treatment causes comorbidities and a cycle of deterioration, and why she nevertheless remains optimistic about the future.
