As the war and the threat of missile attacks from Iran intensify, the safety of students, educators, and visiting participants at Givat Haviva has become an urgent concern. Each year, thousands of Jewish and Arab citizens come to Givat Haviva’s 42-acre campus to participate in programs that build leadership, dialogue, and shared society. During missile alerts, however, participants must have immediate access to reinforced shelter.

Friends of Givat Haviva has launched an Emergency Security Initiative to immediately construct 6 reinforced 100 square foot safe houses across the campus to protect those on site and ensure that these critical programs can continue safely even during wartime. These facilities, which we estimate will cost $35,000 each, will provide lifesaving protection during missile attacks and strengthen the campus’ long-term emergency preparedness.

We are seeking immediate support to help fund this urgent initiative. Please consider making a contribution today to help protect the Givat Haviva community. Your support will directly fund the construction of reinforced safe houses and ensure that this vital work - bringing Jewish and Arab citizens together to build a stronger Israel - can continue safely during this challenging time.

Once again, we find ourselves under fire. These are days of escalating tension for all of us here.

Particularly now, we at Givat Haviva, The Center for a Shared Society, seek to raise a clear voice for hope and humanity. We pray that the current conflict will be as brief as possible, focused on neutralizing threats, and that no harm will come to innocent civilians in Israel, Iran, and throughout the region.

Amidst this complex reality, Givat Haviva remains more committed than ever to strengthening the partnership between Jews and Arabs in Israel, promoting dialogue, and laying the foundations for a shared society rooted in equality and mutual respect.

We call upon regional leaders and the international community to act with responsibility, restraint, and a profound commitment to a future where wars are not the answer, but rather a sustainable peace. The reality of the Middle East demands not only a security response but also a broad diplomatic vision. We believe that it is precisely in moments of crisis that we find the opportunity to strive for long-term agreements that will ensure security, stability, and peace for all peoples living here.

Wishing for quiet and safe days ahead, soon.

Every day Givat Haviva's Jewish and Arab staff, and participants in diverse programs, show that shared society in Israel is reality. Meet Jenan Halabi, director of the acclaimed Through Others' Eyes photography program for teens, and the Jewish and Arab artists who just completed residency in the Shared Art Center. Please join Friends of Givat Haviva on Monday, January 19th, 12 pm (ET) for a special briefing on the new Givat Haviva survey of Israeli Jewish and Arab citizens. The annual Givat Haviva Partnership Index provides vital insights into opinions on critical issues that affect Jewish-Arab relations in Israel and the work of Givat Haviva.

Givat Haviva CEO Michal Sella and Director of Strategy Mohammad Darawshe, and Manu Geva, Founder and CEO, Midgam Research Institute, will present the survey results and discuss their implications for advancing Jewish-Arab relations in Israel.

This special briefing will be the first time the Givat Haviva 2026 Partnership Index is presented in English, and follows on the Givat Haviva Conference for a Shared Society that took place on January 6.

Dear Friends,

“In Israel today, the question is not only how to recover from war but how to regain trust within Israeli society,” Givat Haviva CEO Michal Sella asserts in her Boston Globe oped, The Trust Israeli Society Needs to Restore.

Sella explains why Jewish-Arab relations have reached a new nadir, but also why she has “hope that bonds of trust between Arabs and Jews in my country can grow stronger again.” She calls on leaders across Israel’s political spectrum to make restoring and expanding beneficial Jewish-Arab relations a central priority ahead of 2026 national elections.

“A cohesive Jewish-Arab society is not just a moral goal. It is a strategic necessity for Israel’s stability, prosperity and democracy,” Sella concludes.

Dear Friends,
As we light our Chanukkah candles, we are reminded that a single flame can illuminate what once seemed impossible. In Israel today, amid fear, grief, and polarization, there is a place where, courageously, Jewish and Arab citizens choose to build something different, creating together a shared, democratic future. That place is Givat Haviva, Israel’s leading organization devoted to strengthening Jewish-Arab partnership and equality in Israel.

For 75 years, at Givat Haviva’s 42-acre campus in central Israel, the work of building what Israel’s Declaration of Independence promised: a society of equal citizens, Jewish and Arab, living with mutual respect, shared responsibility, and a common future, is happening. This vision is what we mean by a shared society: not simply living side-by-side, coexisting, but building something together.
This is not theory. It happens every day because people, Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel, choose it.

Consider 10-year-olds Samer and Yael, who met last year in a Givat Haviva art camp. When violence escalated in their towns, their families worried that these friendships would fracture. Instead, they asked to video call one another. As other parents joined, Jewish and Arab families formed a WhatsApp group. What began as two children making art together turned into a community refusing to let fear drive them apart. That is what Givat Haviva makes possible.

Your support fuels vital, innovative programs at Givat, yielding real, measurable outcomes:
• 23,000 Arab students in 66 schools are learning Hebrew through our Shared Language program, giving them access to higher education and employment—and to deeper connection with Jewish peers.

• Over 1,100 Jewish and Arab adults studied Arabic at our Institute for Arabic Studies, expanding communication and cultural understanding across society.

• Art, dialogue, and leadership programs for 1,750 Jewish and Arab children build trust at the most formative ages.

• Women’s leadership cohorts and municipal mediation teams are preventing violence, strengthening local partnerships, and cultivating a new generation of shared society leaders.

This is not symbolic work. It is structurally changing Israel’s future.

Every dollar expands opportunities, opens doors, teaches a language, bridges a divide, and protects relationships when they are most fragile. Every donation strengthens the infrastructure of Jewish-Arab partnership in Israel.

The foundation of a shared society, established by the efforts of Givat Haviva is strong. Givat Haviva resumed full operation soon after October 7, and the demand by both Arabs and Jews in Israel for its programs is growing.

Please join us this Chanukkah to help us grow this impact. Your generosity ensures that the light of shared society does not flicker during difficult times, but grows brighter—community by community, classroom by classroom, child by child.

May the lights of this season remind us that even in dark times, hope is built—not wished for.

Please consider a meaningful Chanukkah gift to Friends of Givat Haviva.

Together, we can ensure that Israel’s future is strengthened through equality, partnership, and shared responsibility.

As this difficult year comes to an end, we are reminded how urgently Israel needs institutions dedicated to building a shared future. The safe return of the hostages brought profound relief and reaffirmed something essential: even in the darkest moments, hope must be stronger than fear, and human dignity must remain at the center of our work.

Across Israel, loss and mistrust have deepened divides between Jewish and Arab citizens. Communities that once lived side-by-side now face uncertainty about how to move forward. It is precisely in moments like this that the work of Givat Haviva becomes indispensable.

Every day—on our campus, in classrooms, in municipalities, and through joint community programs—Jews and Arabs continue to sit together, talk together, and choose partnership over polarization. Young people who have lost friends or fear for their families still choose dialogue over silence. Shared society is not a luxury; it is essential for Israel’s long-term security, stability, and future. Your support makes this work possible.

As we enter Yom Kippur, a day of reflection, forgiveness, and renewal, we are reminded of the power of honest dialogue and shared responsibility. At Givat Haviva, Jewish and Arab communities come together every day to listen, learn, and build trust— even when it is difficult.

This Yom Kippur, may our personal reflections inspire us to pursue a more just and peaceful future for all.
