"From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Komera, for believing in me before I believed in myself. I will always be grateful."-Vestine 𝘒𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘈𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘯𝘢

This , we are celebrating Vestine, an amazing Komera alumna, for her recent achievement of graduating from ALU with a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering with First Class Honors. 🥳🌟

Here is some advice she has to our Komera scholars and global Komera family: "To every Komera student: never underestimate the opportunity you have. Dream bigger, work harder, and remember that your background does not define your future."

Collaboration in action. 🤝 We are incredibly proud to announce the successful distribution of school uniforms created by the Komera Teen Mothers in the Tailoring Education Program! Through our partnership with Tailored for Education this initiative helped 1,200 students across 12 schools in Rwanda's Kayonza District gain access to new uniforms and school supplies, setting them up for a successful school year. Without these school uniforms, many, if not all, of these students risked missing out on staying in school, and continuing their education.

Beyond the uniforms, our team partnered with local district leaders and parents to conduct hygiene and health readiness sessions, ensuring these children are set up for long-term success.

Thank you to the Kayonza District leadership and the community for partnering with us to support students in their pursuit of education. 📚✨

This , we are spotlighting Komera alumna Anitha, who has gone on to do amazing work with CorpsAfrica after graduating from university. Here's a glimpse into Anitha's experience that we cover more in our recent blog post: "Just as others had supported me in accessing education... History isn't just something we look back on; it’s something we actively build upon.

161 years ago, the final enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were notified of their freedom. This year, we celebrate the 5th year of Juneteenth as a federal holiday, and are reminded that progress requires both celebration and intentional action.

This Juneteenth, we are seeking to learn and support more deeply. Here's how you can too!
Sound: Stream the playlist to support African American artists and maybe even discover your new favorite song!
Literature: Read Black Women Taught Us by Jenn M. Jackson, PhD, and Freedom Lost, Freedom Won by Eugene Robinson
Media: Check out educational documentaries, such as The 1619 Project on Hulu, to foster collective learning in your households.
Community: Check out local events, support Black-owned businesses, and use resources from to keep learning going all year long.

We are wishing you a Juneteenth filled with rest, community, reflection, and joy!♥️✨
