❤️ March may be wrapping up — but our love for women and girls never does.

Women's History Month is a reminder of how far we've come, and how much further we still have to go, 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. But at Komera, we don't need a month to celebrate the women and girls. We are inspired by and celebrate them 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆!

Devota comes from a large family of nine. After passing her national exams with flying colors, her dream was to continue her schooling from secondary to university and beyond. But her family struggled to afford school fees. T𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗞𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻.

After joning Komera as a secondary school scholar, Devota began her schooling at FAWE Girl's School. Shortly after her school year began this year, Devota's eyesight started failing, and her grades began to slip. A pair of glasses was all she needed, but the cost of them made this critical tool for success out of reach. 𝗦𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲: she told her fellow Komera Scholars what she was going through.

Without hesitation, they acted! 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱!

Today, she can see the board, she can read her books, and she is ready to sit her national exams. Her dream? To become a doctor!

𝗡𝗮𝘄𝗶 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁!

In honor of International Women's Day, we were thrilled to co-host a screening of 𝘕𝘈𝘞𝘐: 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘔𝘦 in Boston alongside Nurturing Minds, Inc., Maranyundo Initiative, and Girls Education Collaborative. We were especially moved to be joined virtually by two of the film's directors, Vallentine Chelluget and Kevin Schmutzle, whose voices brought even deeper meaning to the evening.

Nawi's story is a powerful reminder of what's at stake when girls are denied the right to choose their own path, and what becomes possible when they're given the tools to fight for it! The film shines a light on the realities of child marriage and the transformative power of education.

💜 Happy International Women’s Day 💜

This is for the women and girls who stand tall — and for the ones still finding their footing.

For the ones who know their worth — and for the ones who are still learning it.

For the ones who show up boldly — and for the ones who are just trying to show up at all.

You don’t have to have it figured out. You don’t have to be confident, fearless, or fully healed. You just have to be you — and that is more than enough!

We at Komera love you, as you are, in all your beauty, strength, flaws, and imperfections.

Today, and every day, we celebrate you. ❤️

Youth Empowerment Program Update!

This past weekend we officially kicked off our YEP Mentor Capacity Building Training!

We brought together mentors, school head teachers, and sector education officers to strategise and reinforce the collaboration needed to make this program a continued success. Over the next year, we will be reaching 500 girls across 5 day schools in Kayonza District.

Our partner schools across this year come from 4 sectors within the district:

Rwinkwavu Sector (home of the Komera Leadership Center) — G.S Rwinkwavu & G.S Gishanda
Kabare Sector — G.S Kiburara
Nyamirama Sector — G.S Icyizere
Ruramira Sector — E.S Ruramira

Another exciting announcement about the YEP program is that, this year, we proudly grew from 300 to 𝟱𝟬𝟬 girls — because every girl deserves a mentor and a champion in her corner!

Thank you to all our partners, educators, and community leaders making this possible.

This Women's History Month, we hold close 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 who has ever been told — through words, walls, or violence — that her education does not matter.

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.

We stand with girls in Rwanda and around the world who deserve not just access to school, but the absolute safety to be there. 𝗡𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻!

Today and every day, we recommit to the belief that education is a right. Not a privilege. Not a risk.

𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱!

This year, we're doing something extra special for International Women's Day, and we want you in the room!

Komera is excited to announce that we are co-hosting an exclusive screening of 𝗡𝗮𝘄𝗶 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗲 — a bold, moving film about a thirteen-year-old girl who refuses to let her future be decided for her.

We're proud to continue our partnership with Tailored for Education for another year! Since 2019, we've worked together to deliver 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 to students across the Kayonza District — and in 2026, we're doing it again with 𝟭,𝟮𝟬𝟬 more uniforms on the way!

This partnership is not only supports students, it supports teen mothers enrolled in Komera's Teen Mother Economic Opportunity program. Each year, the teen mothers enrolled not only learn crucial tailoring skills, but are also paid for their tailoring skills. Helping to set them up for future financial independence!

Something as simple as a uniform can be the difference between a child staying home or walking through the school gates. That's a future worth fighting for!

Now imagine a world where that moment 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 because a girl lacks access, support, or belonging. That gap isn’t just about sport; it’s about every dream deferred.

When you support Komera, you're building pipelines of champions and future leaders. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱.
