Our mission, should you choose to accept it is simple:
Protect Immigrants.
Tax the Rich.
Make Polluters Pay.

On March 10th, NY’s climate, housing, immigrant, health, labor, and economic justice movements are coming together to show Albany what collective power looks like.

As our communities face overlapping crises, this moment calls for unity. Climate, housing, immigrant, health, labor, and economic justice movements are coming together to show Albany what collective power looks like.

We are standing as one to demand a New York that is sustainable, affordable, and safe for all. Buses will be traveling from multiple regions across the state to bring people to Albany, because when we move together, we win together.

Join us in Albany!

"A millionaire levy in Massachusetts has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing significant high-profile departures from the state."

A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing significant high-profile departures from the state.

ACTION ALERT: TODAY in Foley Square at 5:30 p.m. on Wed. July 30th with MMetro New York Health Care for All
Medicaid spending will be intentionally cut by over $1 trillion, and Medicare will be forced to cut $500 billion because the federal debt will increase by another $3.5 trillion.

17 million people will lose their health insurance coverage.
Health care prices will increase for all of us.

Out-of-pocket costs for health insurance premiums, deductibles, and co-pays will go way up.

Join fellow New Yorkers as we hit the streets once again to call on our state leaders to gather right away this coming fall to prevent and mitigate the very real harms that will soon fall upon us, our families, and our communities under the new, horrendous federal tax cut law.

We'll be gathering TODAY in Foley Square at 5:30 p.m. on Wed. July 30th, and then march down Broadway to City Hall Park. On the way, we'll stop in front of 250 Broadway where some of our state and city leaders have their offices, to demand they act promptly to protect New Yorkers' health insurance coverage and our health care system by enacting a Medicare-for-All-style universal health care program. Be sure to bring signs and banners, and friends and family!

(At last) Great news for NYers:

Yesterday, the Affirm Act was officially signed into law!

This new legislation sends a powerful message: trans and gender non-conforming people are protected, welcomed, and affirmed in New York City—regardless of who is in the White House.

The AFFIRM Act makes it illegal to obstruct, harass, or interfere with gender-affirming care facilities and their patients.

Introduced as bill by Council member Shahana Hanif, the law updates Local Law 76 of 2022 to clarify private right of action for infringement on access to gender-affirming care.

Essentially if a person wrongfully has their ability to access gender-affirming care infringed upon either physically or by a lawsuit, they have a private right of action to now counter-sue under New York City law.

This law reinforces our City as a national safe haven for those seeking gender-affirming care, shielding patients who travel to New York City for care from lawsuits initiated by conservative governments or entities. No one should face legal repercussions for receiving medically necessary treatment in our City.

The actions of the Trump Administration and the cowardly compliance of certain providers are absolutely shameful and have endangered the lives of so many socially and economically vulnerable New Yorkers.

With the Affirm Act, we've won an important battle in the movement to push back against these dangerous attacks and building a stronger, safer city for ALL New Yorkers.

What is ranked choice voting, and how does it work?

First, things, first: Remember, in June, registered party members will have a chance to select a party candidate for Mayor, Comptroller, Borough President, and City Council. Between now and then, it is your responsibility to research, learn, and talk to your neighbors and friends.

If you know someone who isn’t registered in New York City, they have until June 14, 2025, to register for the June 24, 2025, Primary Election.

Here's a 90 second video that explains how RCV works (it's been in use in some other US cities/states for almost two decades): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHRPMJmzBBw&t=1s

Here are some asked and answered questions: https://www.thecity.nyc/2021/03/17/ranked-choice-voting-questions-answers-for-nyc/

Remember, If you absolutely don’t want that person in office, you don’t rank them.

A new Economic Policy Institute report shows just how damaging House Republicans’ plan to cut Medicaid to help pay for extending Trump’s tax cuts would be for typical families.

The proposed $880 billion cuts to Medicaid would reduce incomes for the bottom 40% of households far more than extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) would boost them—and the lowest-income households would fare the worst.

On net, the bottom 20% would see a 6.8% income cut, while the top 1% would see incomes rise by 3.9%.

Cutting Medicaid would greatly increase hardship for already struggling families and reduce future opportunities for children who will grow up less healthy and poorer because their families lack access to Medicaid. The cuts would also put enough strain on the nation’s overall economy that they would make a future recession far more likely. Meanwhile, extending the TCJA would significantly boost incomes for the richest households, leading to greater income inequality.

Keeping taxes low for the richest households and corporations is the clearest legislative priority of the Trump administration and the Republican congressional majority. Many provisions of the 2017 tax law (often called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act or the TCJA) are expiring this year. Extending these p...

A Big win for NYC!!!

The Council just voted to pass the FARE (Fairness in Apartment Rental Expenses) Act, a groundbreaking law that eliminates forced broker fees for renters, aligning New York City with nearly every other major city in the US.

StreetEasy® rental listing data shows the average upfront cost to move into a NYC rental was $10,454 in 2023 (up 29% from 2019 before the pandemic disrupted the market). This figure amounts to 14% of the city’s median annual household income.

Many NYers are already being charged more than 30% of their income for rent. Landlords have less incentive to refrain from dramatic rent increases when they know tenants will likely face thousands of dollars in upfront fees to leave.

FARE ends that.

For clarification, the upfront cost is typically the sum of three amounts:
first month’s rent in advance,
security deposit,
and broker fee (the largest of the expenses and can range from one months rent to 15% of the annual rent).

The FARE Act doesn’t eliminate broker fees completely or prevent renters from hiring brokers if they choose. It simply ensures that whoever hires the broker is responsible for paying their fees—a shift that, in New York City, has often unfairly fallen onto tenants rather than landlords.

To learn more, check out this helpful FARE Act FAQ Guide.

The FARE Act FAQs 2.0 What are the new amendments to the bill? The clause now explicitly states that any broker or agent who does not have a fiduciary duty with the prospective tenant will not be allowed to collect any fees from them. There are liabilities to make the landlord liable if thei...

If we get the expanded Child Tax Credit passed, we'll boost the incomes of 3.2 million New York kids and their families while lifting 140,000 children out of poverty in our state.
Nationally, we'd boost income for over 60 million children and lift 2.6 million out of poverty.

CTC is one of the most popular policies ever. We can’t imagine why someone woukd stand in the way.

Gotta get it renewed. Families 👏 need👏 that 👏money!

I had 169 million reasons to vote for Kamala Harris yesterday— and so do you.

“At a Senate hearing shortly before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, Yellen testified that access to reproductive health care, including abortion, over the previous five decades had enabled many women to finish school and advance in the workplace.”

No matter what they tell you, the destruction of women’s freedoms isn’t about preserving religious or traditional family values. There are more sinister goals at play, including financially weakening the communities that benefited from women advancing economically. It’s about making these communities desperate enough to be exploited for the cheapest wages and the poorest working conditions.

That era of increasing financial freedoms brought good things for women, of course, but also their families and communities. Today we are outnumbering men on college campuses and have better graduation rates. We are contributing more earnings than ever to our households. In fact, many families wouldn’t be above the poverty line if not for a woman’s paycheck.

The folks who collaborated to strike down Roe v Wade aren’t done yet. They won’t be satisfied until we go back to a time when women lacked the economic independence to leave abusive spouses, to thrive when widowed, divorced, abandoned, or simply single.

While the Democratic party has lost its way on some crucial issues (more about that later), it has never wavered on reproductive rights. I genuinely believe that a woman in the Oval Office would work to solidify these rights for every woman in every state.

By Tasha Williams, member of GNYCfC

Abortion is on the ballot in 10 states. The vote results will have consequences beyond women's reproductive rights.
