Each year around Easter weekend, Edwin Wong—member of Queens Community Board 6 and Chair of the Veterans Affairs & Public Services Committee—partners with the FDNY Phoenix Society and the EMS FDNY Help Fund to recognize and give back to FDNY EMS stations that serve predominantly Asian communities across New York City.

This initiative is deeply personal. FDNY EMS members have cared for Mr. Wong’s family on multiple occasions—treating his parents when they fell ill, resuscitating his father when he stopped breathing, and providing compassionate care to his mother when she required emergency transport to the hospital.

In gratitude for the lifesaving work of our dedicated first responders, the Wong family continues this annual tradition to show appreciation to the EMS Stations who serve our communities every day.

This year marks the 7th Annual Easter Ice Cream Treat, donated by the Wong Family in memory of Thomas D. Wong and Winnie C. Wong, whose lives were touched by the care of the FDNY. With support from Chinatown Ice Cream Factory and in partnership with the FDNY Phoenix Society, the Wong Family will deliver ice cream treats to three FDNY EMS stations:
FDNY EMS Battalion 4 – Lower East Side / Chinatown (Manhattan)
FDNY EMS Station 45 – Woodside, Queens
FDNY EMS Station 46 – Elmhurst, Queens

The Wong Family also welcomes donations to the EMS FDNY Help Fund in memory of Thomas D. Wong and Winnie C. Wong, or in honor of anyone you wish to remember.

Support for FDNY EMT Frederick Benjamin – Station 43 Coney Island - Currently Battling Lymphoma

The EMS FDNY Help Fund is reaching out on behalf of our brother, EMT Frederick Benjamin of Station 43, who is currently battling lymphoma. Fred has been receiving intensive treatment and care at Maimonides Medical Center.

Recently, Fred was readmitted to the ICU due to complications from his ongoing cancer treatments. His condition remains serious but stable, and he continues to fight with strength and courage.

To help ease the burden on Fred and his family, we are now actively seeking donations to assist with ongoing medical and family expenses.

Fred and his wife, Ashley , and their entire family are grateful for all the support shown so far. Visitation will be arranged when Fred gets stronger. We will share updates as they become available.

Despite the challenges ahead, his family remains optimistic and strong. Let’s rally behind one of our own and show EMT Benjamin the strength and solidarity of our FDNY family. https://givebutter.com/frederickbenjamin

EMS FDNY Help Fund

Our mission is to ensure the security of our Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics and their families in the event of death, injury, illness or hardship through the implementation of a variety of fund raising initiatives. Until very recently, there were no funds designated expressly for the Emergency Medical Technicians & Paramedics of the FDNY. These dedicated professionals can now have peace of mind, in the knowledge that their families will be taken care of should the unthinkable occur.
