Since June is Men's Health Awareness Month, it felt like the perfect time to sit down with Josh Cottrell, Mentoring and Family Support Coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters, dad, and foster parent.
Our conversation covered something that sounds simple, but can be really difficult in practice: reaching out when you're struggling. Josh shares why connection matters and why asking for help is often one of the strongest things we can do.
We also talked about the importance of regulating our own nervous systems before jumping in to help everyone else. As parents, caregivers, friends, and helpers, many of us are quick to support others while putting ourselves at the bottom of the list. The reality is that we can show up better for the people who depend on us when we take care of ourselves, too.
Whether that's taking a walk, talking to someone you trust, getting outside, taking a few deep breaths, or simply recognizing that you're having a tough day, small steps matter.

Because no one is meant to carry life's challenges alone.
